@CCNJ’s say the sky is fallingObama and the democrats are NOT a friend of the working man !They ,the Democrats, have repeatedly stabed the working man in the back with numerous items that they make sound good but in the end are meant to enrich the wealthy at the working mans expense. The ACA is one of many examples that did NOT A THING to reduce the cost of health care. The subsidies’ given are not really given to the “consumer” but to the insurance companies as the consumer will see none of it as it all goes to the insurance company. The consumer ends up with an over priced insurance policy that may bot have any value when it is really needed.
@CCNJ’s say the sky is fallingI sort of agree with you CNNJ. Those jobs creating weapons and other means of death, destruction and high end national terrorism are high paying UNION jobs. I am certain you of all people, being a flag waving patriot you are, want to support High paying American UNION jobs instead of paying people to not rob you because they are desperate because the whole system let them down and they have no job or income. I do not like the welfare system as it does not seem to address the matching ability to income providing labor/job/work. I am certain every last one of those people on welfare would rather have a well paying job union or not.
@masterskrainIt is not the spending on the military, which I believe is a waste of valuable resources, it is the lack of taxes needed to pay for such spending.

@om peQuod Seeking Ahab’s ReinstatementI sort of figured that Michael wme was being mocking the situation somewhat but I do believe wme was drawing that from their own experience. So om I have never been to Europe and often wonder if Europeans motorist have the same animosity toward cyclists as American motorist seem to have. I realize that England is not exactly Europe but it is a whole lot closer than California.I certainly have a crappy attitude in general but my attitude to the anti-pedestrian and anti-cyclist car culture and those in the government that promote that automobile dependence over all other forms of transportation is far far worse than merely disagreeing with them. IN my life I’ve become very cynical of government and those making a claim of public service when from where I see things every last one is there to line their own pockets the public be damned.
The people in office are just better liers / con artist / smooth talkersI’ve had this attitude since the oil embargo’s in the 70’s at least and I swear things have gotten a whole lot worse since then.

Nantucket19 said : “There are days I feel like it is a giant video game and I have a points bubble above my head.” In the decades I’ve been riding I’ve been hit 4 times and at least 2 times it was intentional and they seemed to have the intent on truly killing or at the very least doing me great bodily harm as they forced me off the road into a ditch. Keep in mind what passes for a bike lane is a 3" wide white line on the edge of the road and as a cyclist I am suppose to be on the pavement on the right hand side of that white line and there is a better than fair chance there will be no pavement on the right of that white line. The walk signal has always been a gripping point for me as a pedestrian. You can not speed across an intersection at 45 miles an hour and get from one side to the other before the sign does from walk to don’t walk.Sometimes you can not even get your foot off the curb into the intersection before the sigh goes from walk to don’t walk.Push the walk button to get the walk signal and you will wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait but the instant a car shows up the light turns green for the car.Cars directly kill more people than illegal drugs do. and that is a direct car killed person and not the obesity or diabetes or any of the other sedentary diseases deaths that cars also cause.
@Michael wme I believe we have crossed paths. I was that cyclist that had to make a left hand turn and you had to stop but you could not leave enough room for me to get by into the left turn lane.We cross paths every morning even thought I have my arm stuck straight so far pointing to the left that people are honking their horn screaming get off the road as they come to a stop almost hitting the person in front of them because they just had to make sure I could not easily make my left hand turn.

ConserveGovThe automobile is directly responsible for 30,000 to 40,000 deaths a year and considering that the people inside are protected by seat belts, roll cages, air bags, and all kinds of safety this and that you have just got to realize that most of the people that cars are directly killing each year are on the outside of the car.
But lets just cut to the point. The reason for this is for safety, They just want those pedestrians to feel safe. Safety above all else except keeping traffic moving at a brisk pace, So in the interests of safety and of course stand your ground is also about safety why not combine both and require pedestrians to wear full body armor and carry a weapon of their choice. For your dainty polite side arm types I suggest a Dirty Harry 44 Magnum but for the more serious individual try attaching a M203 underneath a M60. Then when the cross walk blinks stop walking you stop, lock and load, face traffic and stand your ground. The Law is on your side. That car could have killed you so feel justified for emptying a couple 203 rounds and a few hundred hollow point armor piercing rounds into the driver and vehicle. Safety first worry about accuracy later. Just remember it is either you or the driver so make sure it is not you, Shoot first before the car even has a chance to move. This is all in the name of pedestrian safety of course cars are plenty safe.

@omQ R Well thank you omQ R but those are stupid gun owners who left a cocked and loaded gun with safety off and in essence the gun dropped and went off. I was thinking that the dog somehow pulled the trigger and could not get that out of my head. I did searches on dog shoots owner and got nothing but police shooting owners dog.
@churchillwasrightPeople have abortions because they do not want to bring children into this world dominated by people like you. People like you really do not care about those poor people who you obviously do not care about otherwise you and your type would endorse things like universal health care among many other things and would oppose the expensive wars and killing that the USA does for dubious reasons.

@Doughfoot“health” insurance should be like any other insurance and just as inexpensive. You need to buy liability insurance if you operate a car to cover costs just in case you cause damage. That liability insurance covers you for some amount say fifty grand and you can purchase that insurance for as little as twenty five dollars a month.Fifty grand will cover or should cover a lot of medical bills and fifty grand of auto insurance does not cost hundreds of dollars a month!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLHb4Pb0Xwg < a fair explanation in my opinion
@ Michael wme : Emergency room care is not free! The hospitals are or were required to accept everyone regardless of their ability to pay because of some law that has has now been forgotten. People are charged a great deal for entering the emergency room and threatening letters will soon arrive in the mail if that bill is not paid in full with interest!
IMHO the ACA has NOT made health care affordable but is a big giveaway to the insurance companies *(read the likes of AIG) The ACA should have started with reducing the COSTS of health care and NOT forced that last 5-10-15% who do not have “health care insurance” because they were in essence priced out of buying “health care” insurance due to the exorbitantly high costs of said “health care” insurance !
