    Too true.

On the negative side: They compulsive need to rescue? They believe this is the best they deserve?
On the positive side: They see something wonderful, hopeful in these men that others are unwilling or unable to see?

    “Mami”? Who says that?

I’m confused! How old is Derek? Bernice and Luann are supposed to be 13. I thought Derek was 16, but no one would hire a 16yo as a road manager for anything, so that doesn’t make sense.

Well, first thing, Brad, is that you’re holding a flat sheet.

What a weird thing to say! I have never heard of any major religion teaching of a god whose name is actually “God.” I’m not saying that such a religion does not exist, just that it’s news to me.
(I’ve subscribed to Christianity all my life and I do pay attention to differences between denominations. I also have a fair amount of knowledge of some of the other most popular religions in the world. I say this just to indicate that I’m not ignorant of these things.)

    Your poor mother.

Claire is still trying to make ends meet for TODAY. Heaping guilt and concer on her about retirement isn’t helpful. Timing up the money she need to pay her rent today in long-term assets is a bad idea. A short term emergency fund/buffer so she won’t have to beg her parents for rent $ in the event of a problem seems like a more useful thing to focus on right now.

You know, they always make out like Claire’s dad is judgemental. But her mom so frequently has the “punchline” that is mean and not at all funny or clever. I enjoy the strips with the other characters, but when Ventresca and Beckett go into moralizing/teaching mode, they give Claire’s mom is offensive high-and-mighty attitude and some stupid and unprofound line. Irritating.
