The difference between imagination and craziness is pretty arbitrary. I know a writer whose mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia. He says he hears the same voices she does, but since he recognizes them as coming from inside himself (“Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes”) instead of from “out there”, he just writes down what they say and sells it instead of getting psychotropics shoved down his throat.

How would Anansi know what worms taste like? It’s not as if they ever get in contact with a spiderweb except by some freak accident, and even if they do their mucus keeps them from getting stuck.
And of course the same is true of eels, only more so.
