Not strictly true. The KKK is the military arm of the Southern Baptist Convention, just as the IRA is, or was, the military arm of Sinn Fein. For practical purposes, though, the KKK can be considered as an arm of the Republican Party, as well.

Wow, that’s some ignorance! The Preamble says that one of the purposes of the Constitution is to “promote the general Welfare.” Article I, Section 8 specifically grants the Congress the “Power” to provide for the “general Welfare” of the United States. Sounds constitutional to me! This is nothing more than the people pooling their resources to promote the general welfare, just as they pool their resources to build highways, defend the country, &c.

Get over it, dude. Seven million people have health insurance who did not have it before the ACA. For every complaint there are 100,000 thankful people. This snowball is taking us into the ranks of the civilized world. Thank you, Obama and Romney.

Perhaps. But making up for 75 years of lagging behind the rest of the civilized world is a bit more complex than creating a cartoon. At the end of the cartoonist’s day there would be a cartoon drawn. At the end of the Obamacare day seven million people have health insurance, people are saved from premature death, suffering is eased.

Yes, but if an infant dies because its mother could not afford pre-natal care, that’s not dying at one’s time. When this program matures—when we have universal, single-payer health care, preventive medicine will both bring down the cost of health care and also ensure that more people die when it is their time, and not 75 years too soon.

Yeah, but more than six MILLION people who did not have health insurance are now insured, thanks to the Affordable Care Act. Thank you for making America a more civilized place, Mr. President.

It is past time to abandon manned space flight. Doing real science in space is a job for robots. The Mideast is hopeless because no one there wants peace (this opinion from one who lived there for 10 years and who knows both Arabic and Hebrew). Crimea? We never owned it. How many American cities is Crimea worth? You who decry Obama’s lack of leadership, what would you have done besides tweak the sanctions? The Internet? That genie escaped from the bottle years ago and cannot be put back.

Why not address America’s real problems: voting rights, racial hatred, income inequality, poverty, poor K12 education, religious extremism…

The right is so freaked out that five million Americans who did not have health insurance one year ago now have health insurance. Startup problems? Sure. It’s a large and complex program. Success? Indisputable. Years down the road, when we have universal, single-payer health care, the early enrollment problems will be no more than a disregarded footnote. It can’t be fun, standing alongside the path of history and eating dust as the country becomes more and more progressive.

Fear not. This is the first step toward the single-payer healthcare system that we need. It will come in a few years. Hurrah, hurrah!
