True story about the spanking debate – I was in a fraternity in 1991 and one of the brother’s father had a job in the government that was kind of vague and murky. We were having a discussion about spanking and he had a strong opinion. He argued that his whole life his dad never spanked him but he never would have thought of disobeying or disrespecting him. Somebody said, “but Rick, your dad ran Central American death squads for the Reagan administration!”

@rvernon – I would go further…he’s such a profound liar we have no idea who he really is or what he would do. We don’t even know if HE even knows who he really is. Was he lying to the general publc or to the Republcan primary voters? Like McCain said 4 years ago, you can’t debate against someone like that.

I think the moment it all went downhill was 4 years ago when Sarah Palin made a conscious decision that she could just ingnore the moderator’s questions and use the format to spout talking points. The moment the candidates realized they could get away with that, debates became pointless.

Of course companies have to make decisions like this all the time, but the “vulture capitalism” thing, which was coined by Newt Gingrich, referred specifically to the practice of buying viable companies, loading them with debt to enrich the holdng company, and then bankrupting and liquidating the previously viable company resulting in mass layoffs. If that was done to even one company, to me I don’t care about the rest of their scorecard.
