I love that Skippy is a window back to a comic strip era now mostly forgotten, where we can learn the slang from then, and admire the draftsmanship with just pen and ink. Thanks for carrying it.

Oh, for pity’s sake. What a bunch of grouchy old cranks hanging around here…isn’t it time for the Early Bird Special?

Love the feet going in and out of the panels! A beloved cartoon trope! I can just see Aunt Fritzi’s leg now…….

Love her eyes without her glasses. The draftsmanship on this strip is superb.

One of the classics—-the pie cooling on the windowsill!!

Why can’t we just get along and enjoy the comic? Jimmy’s writing is spot-on, his draftsmanship spare and elegant, and he has engendered great fondness and interest in his characters…the only complaint that should be allowed is,“Where’s Gene?” ;-)

    " popular." Spellchecked!

A big reason I enjoy Skippy, besides the exquisite draftsmanship, is learning these gems of past popular culture that Crosby included. Slang, clothes, etc, are mostly lost, but this is a fun way to retrieve little pieces of it. Cigarette cards were very pulse in England, so I guess they may have been here, too.

Do they still make Pink Pearls?

There was also an arc where Arlo realized he’d gotten fond of a co-worker…and waxed philosophical about how different his life might have been. Wonderful, complex stuff for a newspaper comic. Thanks, Jimmy!
