I’m a relative novice to this strip. I’ve been trying to follow it for some time, but had drifted in and out. Does she get married to that other guy? Or does Frank win or over? or does the strip just end with no resolution? Did they have it and I missed it? Help!

The Jews lived in that land since the time of Moses and despite some upsets from the Assyrians and Babylonians, remained in the land for some two thousand years until the Romans displaced them. Prince Titus destroyed the temple in 70 AD. Then in the second century, Emperor Hadrian crushed a new Jewish rebellion. This time, many of the Jews were banished and others were made slaves of the Romans. A small number of Jews did stay in the land and remained there right up through the twentieth century. However, the name of the land at this time was changed because Hadrian wanted to destroy Jewish identity. He renamed the land “Syria-Palestinian.” Palestine was a Latin version of the word Philistine, an ancient enemy of the Jews who were now extinct as a people. Hadrian was deliberately insulting the Jews. There has never been a country called Palestine. This was a nickname for the Holy Land under the Romans. The people who today call themselves Palestinians are Arabs and they referred to themselves as Arabs for centuries until they were dubbed “Palestinians” as a publicity ploy by the terrorist and founder of the PLO, Yassir Arafat, who himself did not use the title “Palestinian” until after the year 1964.

People forget their basic government studies. Democracy is a byproduct of enlightenment. You have to have enlightened leadership, which is willing to give up it’s power and allow citizen to elect new leaders and set mandates. And citizens have to be enlightened enough to accept a legally elected leadership, and use their power of the vote to right a perceived wrong. Iraq has neither of these traits. The country has very little tolerance, and you can’t force that trait onto anybody.

So you believe that one outlier is the normal source? Isn’t this like the one guy who sees the polk-dot chimp, but he thinks everybody else in the room is crazy because they don’t see his delusion?

I don’t get this. How are the Americans NOT compromising? The state department is busting its hump trying to resolve this through diplomacy and not jump into another Cold War. Yet Danziger draws this mess, depicting our President being equally as irrational as Putin. Putin the the idiot invading countries. German’s stance is the same as the United States! Wow. I guess this is why US Presidents make the big bucks, their damned if they start a war, and their damned if they don’t. The GOP doesn’t suck. The Democrats don’t suck. It’s this kind kind of obtuse commentary that destroys a nuanced issue.

Great point. It’s almost like the GOP has become movie villain caricatures. What a trip.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love Cho’s artwork and he’s probably one of the best comic artist working today. I own his sketchbooks and I envy his artistry. I wish I were on the same page as him, concerning his humor, however. People obviously love his stuff, so it’s not him! I just wish I got it, because I enjoy looking at his strips.
