    It reminds me of when I first got transferred to the DC area in 1969. It was in the summer, and the first impression I got was walking out of a hot, stuffy room into an equally hot, stuffy outdoors.

    Even when I was a child, we never put up any Christmas lights outside, because our parents thought of Christmas as mainly a family thing – to be celebrated in the home. I have maintained that custom with my own family.
