The car in the first frame doesn’t even look like a 1940s era car save for maybe the front end. Another clue?

I knew Gertie would do something like that.
I saw the look in here eyes the day before
when Angus had her and Sparkle at gunpoint
when Sam and Tracy walked in on them.

You are correct. The Shadow was an aviator named Kent Allard, but he was popularly
believed to be Lamont Cranston. He also
had another identity, as a janitor of a police station. I think the name he used for that was Fritz

So that explains the additional gadgets like the horns.
I knew the car didn’t have them originally. I still find it
rather amazing how they restored a car that was burned
down to charred steel. A totally burned-up car couldn’t be worth restoring. The intense heat would have weakened
    the strength of the metal.

I read the Flattop, Jr story too and I don’t recall the car having a horn outside of it nor an opening in the right rear door. Add also that car was totally destroyed by fire when Flattop, Jr set fire to the old theater he was hiding in along with the car. That car was all
charred steel when the police recovered it.
