A thoughtful, poignant, emotional conclusion to what has been a very entertaining story. Love Notta, and I agree with Ray Toler, whatever Notta has done, it’s hard not to have genuine sympathy for her right now, given how sad and miserable her life has been. I can’t say enough good things about today’s strip. An instant classic.
You’ve provided a very good analysis of what makes Blaze tick. I think it’s right on the money. It explains why she was willing to stay with Notta as long as she did despite the abuse. We’ve seen in the story how she has tried to convince Notta, even now, not to pursue revenge against Tracy, and to do the right thing. For some time, Blaze has been trying to help Notta escape her cycle of anger and vindictiveness. The danger she’s in right now is partly due to that. She could have taken the gun from Notta and used it on her, or just escaped out the back. Instead, she put herself in danger by trying to reason with Notta one last time, and save Purdy. Looking for Purdy in spite of the obvious danger she’s in is right in keeping with her character. This is good storytelling, folks.

Notta underestimates Blaze, so I tend to think everything is as it appears and Notta doesn’t suspect anything. Yet.
I like the cliffhanger in panel three. Notta’s slinky silhouette makes it even more fun.
Watch out, Blaze! Behind you!
Also joyful over all the 1960s strips that have been shared today. What a great time it was for Dick Tracy, and even greater that it’s being revisited in the new strips. Notta, Bribery, Purdy, Mysta, I love all these characters! Such colorful and attractive characters, and such rich histories to tap into. Plus the science fiction angle. Love it!! Thank you, Mike Curtis and Joe Staton!!!!!!
I’m jumping for joy over today’s strip. The confirmation that Bribery has big plans for Purdy means that he and Notta will both survive this story, and that we’ll see them again, maybe on the Moon. Yahoo!
I like the two panel strips we’ve been getting this week, and today.
Someone mentioned this a few days ago. The ending of this story is being set up as a reversal of Notta’s original story. Notta was abused by Piggy until she and her husband reached out to Tracy and agreed to cooperate with the police and bring down her abuser. Now Blaze is being abused by Notta, to the point where she has reached out to Tracy and agreed to cooperate with the police and bring down her abuser. Very neat! It’s possible the story could take a different turn. It will probably have some unexpected twists and turns. But if I am reading this right, it tells me Mike Curtis has carefully thought through this story and is going to give us a classic ending. I like it already!
Mrs. Peel, you rook mahverous! Hey guys, you did some really great detective work today. I doubt there will be much more activity here tonight, so how bout moving this discussion into tomorrow? I love it!
