    That was the House of David, a religious group in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Founded 1903, started playing competitive baseball in 1913 and barnstorming in 1915.

    (Continued from yesterday) The Los Angeles Rams’ early star was quarterback Bob Waterfield, who came with the team from Cleveland, They eventually won the NFL championship in 1951, defeating the Cleveland Browns. I believe this was their only NFL championship in all of their L.A. years.

    First, the Rams moved from Cleveland to Los Angeles in 1946. The Cleveland Browns beat them in the first championship game after the merger of the NFL and AAFC in 1950, though it kwas not called a Super Bowl then.

    Or for that matter, women’s pro baseball as it was actually played in WWII and immediate postwar years — not the wish fulfillment of the film “A League of Their Own.”

    Maybe an aging player who can shoot at 15 feet but can’t run, rather like baseball’s first designated hitters. :-)
