Hmm…perhaps “mushroom hunting” is what the kids are calling it nowadays. I wish I were hip to all the teen lingo…

However, I will give MAJOR props to the writer for correct usage of “reigns”. I’m so tired of seeing “reigned in” or “took the reigns.”

Who the heck tries for third on a bloop to LEFT? “Overly ambitious,” indeed…

Yep, coaches at our school get grade reports on a weekly basis – nothing unusual there.

Amy is becoming the Swiss Army Knife of the team. Suspension? Amy! Injury? Amy! Academics? Amy! Not feeling fresh? Amy!

HA. In my state, today’s high school officials are absolutely pathetic. Put it this way – the head of the state athletic association called an emergency meeting of all officials after the first day of last year’s state basketball tournament because the officiating (supposedly the best officials in the state) was so incredibly poor.

I can tell you that cheap shots like this occured in 90% of the games I watched over the last 7 years – and only 2 instances saw a player ejected as a result.

    Today’s strip is spot-on.

Oh, no no no…that’s ‘hurdling’, and it’s a 15-yard illegal contact penalty.

..and everyone wondered why the Pep Band was working on “Ride of the Valkyries” this week…it all became clear as they advanced upon the funereal pyre, so tall that its flames licked the feet of All-Father Odin himself…

Now Gil throws in a variation on Ben Parker, Kaz chimes in with a homily to American jurisprudence, Knox has an Grinchlike epiphany (his heart grows three sizes) and then goes on an apology tour through his circle of acquaintances to inform them that he’s changing gears and going to be a pro bono defense attorney to protect others from jerks like he was just a few strips earlier…

Meanwhile, with DP school record firmly in hand, the playdowns loom large for the Mudlarks…

Bily Goat – The player in P3 is obviously getting a foul ball back from a random little kid…didn’t you ever shag fouls?

Have Mop – you’d be surprised what records high schools track these days. They’re taking their cue from the ESPN “Most Strikeouts by a Left-Handed Pitcher of Central European Extraction in an Odd-Numbered Day Game” stat crew.
