there’s NO excuse for violence… anywhere, anytime, anyway.

Even when the safe falls on Wile E. Coyote? Or when Popeye nails Bluto to save Olive Oyl? So we’re stuck with reading The Family Circus? Or Crankshaft?

Maybe the thousands of invisible “guests” on board the gambling boat will help Oop and the private dick

Yeah, that would be a sight to see….or not see…LOL

Another thing, since they suspect the mob, it would seem like Oop and the PI would be at a slight disadvantage since they only have Oops magic ax and the one revolver between them. The mob guys would at least have revolvers, and most likely a Thompson submachine gun or two. To that end, they may well be out manned and out gunned. Likely the mob would have several “bouncers” and protection against robberies so Oop and the PI will be at a “slight” disadvantage.

Why would Oop know about the mob, in particular, although he knows about bad guys in general.
    -———————————————————————
Perhaps not the mob in particular, but the PI told him gambling was illegal on land so that is why it was on a boat. I suppose Oop could kind of figure some kind of not too savory characters were involved.

I am curious … that article doesn’t mention when or how those 3 – 5 thousand people manage to turn invisible … does it???
    -———————————————————————-
Yes, during a blackout, they had the option of either doing the blackout, or turning invisible. lol

gambling boats did most of their business in the evenings”, wouldn’t the WAR MEASURES (blackout) prevent operations in the evening?

Adding to the last post, here are a few lines from an article on a Santa Monica website:

who realized that California law didn’t extend to the sea.

Between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors a day would board ferries to the Rex, which was a 24-hour operation, from Santa Monica
