Even if you avoid skin cancer, too much sun does other damage to your skin. I now many ladies of my generation with leathery skin and wrinkles from too many hours baking by the pool.

Vows of poverty are only taken by some, but not all, religious orders such as the Jesuits, Benedictines, and Franciscans but not by diocesan priests. One reason diocesan priests do not take vows of poverty is that they need to save money for retirement. Religious orders take of of its members for life but the various dioceses cannot afford to do so.

I think acorn woodpeckers are only found west of the Rockies.

JJ has addressed the difference between being sexy to your partner and feeling sexy. Of course Arlo desires Janis, but feeling sexy can only come from within despite how your partner feels. Janis has become more confident over the years, lets hope she continues her growth and accepts her innate sexual being.

It’s never been explicitly stated how old they are, but the original premise of the strip is that they ex-hippies. JJ once stated that they age in about 2/3 time. The strip started in 1985, and Gene was about 10 years old, so figure they were in their early 30’s. Move forward 30 years in comic strip time and they are in their early 60’s.

I’m wondering if that is the set up. The comic is almost 40 years old and JJ deserves to enjoy his twilight years also.

JJ has previously stated that Gene’s name was inspired by Gene McCarthy (Arlo & Janis were originally grown up members of the Flower Generation).
