    I’ve been playing D&D off and on with the same group for nearly 40 years, and we’ve left our magic user with a curse on him for at least 25. Partly to teach him a lesson about trying to kill the rest of the party, and partly because we’re still 16 years old emotionally so we think it’s funny.

    I think it depends heavily on the book. I’ve loved to read since childhood, but I think my uncle’s gift to me of James Michner’s “Chesapeake” when I was about 8 years old missed the mark a bit. For one thing, it weighed more than I did.
