I have been roped into teaching comic art to middle schoolers Saturdays at the local Salvation Army. The book I am thinking of using is Drawing Comics Lab: 52 Exercises on Characters, Panels, Storytelling, Publishing & Professional Practices (Lab Series) by Robyn Chapman. I will have one class of seven and one class of six students all with 3.2 or better GPA.

Is there a better book you could suggest before I order fourteen copies?

Usually I teach Photoshop, Corel Draw and In Design, and to serious students I tutor Quark XPress, but I couldn’t get six high-schoolers with 3.2 minimum GPA to sign up.

This course is called an “Earned Elective,” and is only available to well performing students.

Saturday school starts the 13th, so I am in a hurry.

The final project will be printed as a tabloid format comic section on my shop’s HP T-410 Color Web Ink Jet Press. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNv94hOpoI4

Come here kitty, I have a handful of delicious Seafood Temptations and a nice Velcro petting glove to groom you.

If I were a girl and Ray-Ray were hit on me a hundred times a day, for a hundred days I would likely shove a knitting needle up his nose. (Maybe as soon as the second day.)

Or that demands a morning petting and talking to. My Clio gives me a bunch of nuzzles at 05:55, than turns on Morning edition at 06:00.

I don’t intend to go to the computer until late in the course. I want to cover mostly the pencil, pen and paper aspects of cartooning, and cover scanning and computer colorizing later.

Honors to the SA for creating a wonderful learning center with a well equipped art room, MAC and PC labs and a printer room with some bindery equipment plus four regular classrooms for 12-18 students. It is needed by the community.

The switch is at the central office, and it amounts to a computer terminal and maybe a minute of typing
