    There’s a story that every time Shatner botched a line on Star Trek, he’d say “Sh1t.” Then, one day as he blew it, he realized there was a fan on the set. So it came out “Shiiii . . . atner! You’ve done it again!”

    Yeah. Most sun “block” is designed to let people tan “safely.” It’s not much good when you’ve got any kind of photosensitivity problem.

    I think SPF values for sunblock go up to 90, but I’m not sure. There’s a point of diminishing returns on the value; a sunblock stops all but 1/SPF of the UV light that reaches the skin. Even then most sunblocks allow some of the weakest UV-A wavelength through, so again, they’re not all that great. Covering up and staying indoors works best—

    My brother had to do the same thing when he developed diabetes. Record the volume of output and test results for sugar and ketone levels. Not exactly a page-turner, but it held his doctor’s interest and helped keep his diabetes under control.
