Yeah, that’s the way Chester Gould did it…most of the time. One major exception was the Flattop, Jr. story which sort of disappeared for a bit only to end smack in the middle of the next story. But at least it was the same year.

Everybody’s talking about Otis, but what I keep seeing is how very Gouldian Mr. Dee looks. Especially in panel three.

Some of those comments about Snowflake (Vitamin’s first wife) were made by Tracy himself. One of Dick’s major flaws during the Gould years was a tendency to speak without thinking when he disapproved of a friend or family member’s major life choice. He hurt Vitamin and Snowflake with his blunt words (and later hurt Junior the same way.) Dick is far from perfect, though in recent years he seems to have learned some restraint in this area.

Wally is almost quoting Rocket J. Squirrel, who once said, “Sometimes you have to do stupid stuff when you’re a TV hero.” At least I think I got that right

And don’t look for it on GoComics. It’s not here.

Your avatar looks like a piece of art from the webcomic Romantically Apocalyptic. Exceedingly bizarre. I gave up on it.

Anyone who thinks there have never been any fantasy elements in Dick Tracy (apart from the moon period) has never read what happened to Flattop Jr. after he committed murder. Just as wild as Punjab’s magic cape in my opinion, but not a shark jumping moment.

I’d vote against the return of Peanutbutter. He not only drove the Dick Tracy crew crazy, but this reader as well. And one recurring cartoonist is enough.

Incredible! As goony as Vera looks today (drawn by Staton and company) he looked even goonier in Gould’s originals!

I was thinking more of Flash Gordon with the wildly different warring kingdoms of Mongo. Or the post apocalyptic world of Kamandi, where anything could be just over the hill thanks to the hyperactive imagination of Jack Kirby.
