It took me quite a while to realize that Jim was laughing, not struggling to breth, and to see that he Does seem to be sliding sideways. But he isn’t, hopefully , been given super-powers. He should soon enough lose enough blood to die.

The way I see it, books 1 and 2 were much more fun to read and often funny. The cook, the mayor Duck, the rat security, sometimes I would actually LOL.
books 3and 4 were still generally not un-pleasant, ever though we thought Wally and Holly and Petey had died. There were still fun and funny things, mainly provided by the avatar, Aaron Marx. He was a coyote type, He was superhuman, but there were some complaints that if he could rescue people by tearing a hole between dimensions it was cheating.
I suspect Aaron was a bit hurt by that.
    I didn’t end well.
So our favorite cat and mouse left and were quickly captured by these horrid lizards and since then, I didn’t realize that it’s been about a year, things have been grim and even horrifiring.

So, I Think Aaron is one of the geniuses of cartooning. But he maybe struggling with a deep depression, which would be reasonable.
I myself have been depressed since childhood and have PTSD
Aaron has had to put up with lots of chronic pain from a mysterious cause, possibly MERSA, He has financial problems, we most of us do, plus
artists and other creative types are sensitive.
The world,, Our Actual 1 and Only World is falling apart!!
We are all going to die from Fukushima radiation, if we manage not to die from other causes 1st.
there are war profiteers running our world, and a bunch of politicians who only care about the rich!!
And now those elected are planning to end Minimum wage, so we will be even poorer even as for doing more work. They are planning to end CHIP (food stamps) which is okay with the people who are able-bodied and hold decent pay, but bad for little kids, babies, the elderly and the handicapped!!
So If he is depressed, it might color his work,so to speak, and thus the grimness of this story arc.

No, that counts as a clever ruse, way better to out-think the enemy than to torture them.

Have you checked out you tube about what the people who were in that building said, who lived?
Or the one about the extreme heat that burned below the site for 8 months?
Or the one of many others scientific annaylisis?

Exactly. We have become the guys we called the dreaded enemy back then.
I long for the days before Reagan, when things seemed to make sense.
The 1st inkling of change was firing all the air traffic controllers.
    Been mostly down-hill ever since.
