    You don’t see it being played as much as when I was a kid. Back then, the neighborhood dads played every Sunday afternoon. Now I feel the urge to give it a shot, but at 60 I would probably tear a rotator cuff in about 15 minutes.

    True seems to be holding what we call in St. Louis a “corkball,” which looks like a baseball but is slightly larger than a golf ball. The bat for the game is as thin as a broom handle. Any other cities out there play corkball?

    Boo’s face reminds me of a Beaver episode when Eddie Haskell tricks Beaver into telling a Spanish kid, “Usted tiene una cara como puerco.”

    Maybe Central City is 200 miles away. That would explain Boo feeling bad about her father making that drive every Wednesday. Of course, it doesn’t leave much time for visiting, since Boo has to leave for school at 4 a.m.
