   The point there is that things like playing the national anthem at all sporting events, adding under god to the pledge etc were part of the anti-communist hysteria and faux-patriotism of the 50s. You don’t prove how loyal you are by spouting a few words or hearing a song. Most countries have moved beyond that.

   If there were no discrimination of anyone that isn’t a wealthy white male, there would be no need for identity politics. If all Americans truly had the same voting opportunities, the same educational and employment opportunities, we would all be American. Sadly you must be very naïve.
