   Here’s a radical approach for you! Banish lobbyists! Encourage legislators to get their “facts” and “studies” from colleges, and/or hire Interns to attend our prestigious universities which specialize in Economics, Human Relations, and Ethics. They should also employ ombudsmen to live full time in their districts and serve on “Community Service Forums”, negating the need for them to spend long periods away from their pressing tasks as legislators.Base each legislator’s pay on the median income of his or her constituents. Legislators (and candidates) should have to pass literacy and competency tests, as well as tests which could show whether or not they understand the way our democracy should work.Congress should remain in session all year, with individual vacation time based on seniority, just as it is for the working class Americans. Do away with the elitism which our representatives enjoy, such as making them subject to every bit of legislation that they pass. Make pensions commensurate with time served.Abolish all perks, and make them contribute to and depend upon) Social Security and Medicare.Abolish political parties. Negate the need for campaign contributions by forcing the Media to provide free Programs, advertisements and forums for all candidates for public office. Campaign contributions should be limited to volunteering time and talents. Monetary contributions should be illegal.Finally, furlough all current public officeholders.Things will change!

   @ disgusted taxpayerThe truth hurts, doesn’t it? The working poor (AKA former middle class) pays the largest percentage of tax per earnings, and stands by helplessly while privately funded politicians funnel favors and funds to corporate interests. Anyone with the bravado to try to educate the public to this oligarchy in republic’s clothing usually gets tagged as Marxists, Communists, Anarchists or just plain old subversives. An example: Our government is supposedly represented “of the people, by the people, and for the people”. This radical notion promoted by our Founding Fathers has been subverted by the SCOTUS by insisting that “corporations are people too”. Yet I don’t see those corporations imprisoned for breaking laws regarding taxation, campaign funding, or breaching contractual obligations to homeowners, etc.! I do see Wall Street’s puppeteers in D.C. cutting programs that have historically benefitted the common man, while subsidizing corporations whose recklessness is tolerated not just because they are “too big to fail”, but also because their failures would put an end to campaign funding (which politicians will never permit)!America’s great experiment of a democratic republic has fallen, and “perish(ed) from this Earth”. So now the elitists must destroy the promise of “Freedom of Speech”, which the “disgusted taxpayer” apparently abhors.The Patriot Act has killed our Bill of Rights, so it follows that the next victim should be those who (like myself and Matt Davies) dare to express our thoughts in public.Until such “radical thinkers” are muzzled, you ( the "disgusted taxpayer) can continue to enjoy your bonus’ built by the efforts of others’ labors. Happy Labor Day!

   In today’s world, I’d say that’s “Every Parent’s Prayer”, devoid of the desire to raise an intelligent compassionate soul that could strive for peace for all. I’d also like to thank Mr. Danziger for trying to focus attention upon those who need help from those of us who seek to amuse ourselves to death.

   Yeah; Listen to Landers – he knows whereof he speaks. It may seem strange to those of us who just want a comic to make us laugh, but bear in mind that it is the “sorry truth” that makes us laugh, if only to keep from crying.
