Okay, I think I have it! It is Bruce Springsteen’s “The River” CD. And this is a huge slam on Springsteen – “Everything you play sounds like a commercial.” I do like a strip that makes you get involved.

No objective proof of God exists else there would be no reason for faith. That is, as long as you accept that unbelievably complicated molecules organized themselves against all possible odds and survived the incredibly hostile environments present back then, and oh yes, they somehow defeated entropy at the same time. Just because a nonbeliever cannot wrap his/her mind around the possibility that we exist solely because a higher being wanted us for fellowship does not validate the assertion that there is no God. I wouldn’t attempt to proselytize here but you should seek your path. The God I serve desires fellowship - so much so that He gave His Son to open the door back to Him even though I was running away.

Note-Louie is in to self-preservation. He needs the squirrel population to stay up so he can continue to bark as loud as he wants. Without squirrels, he would have no reason….

“Aqualung”? or would Ms. Whale prefer “Locomotive Breath”?

Susan001, I only have a theory - as yet unproven: Calvin was written so honestly true to the experience of a 5-6-7 year old that many of us identify with him. And, there is a strong core of people who read him every day. This core has developed a cyber-relationship. One day we even identified our home country on the wall and we literally spanned the globe except for southeast Asia. Lastly, since this is a classic comic, many of us are seeing it again, and we remember how spot on and poignant it was the first time back in the 1980s. Clearly, Bill Watterson left us wanting more.

We should dream big. That’s what humans do best.

I suppose we could accidentally spring into existence against all odds or we could have a Creator who is outside of our existence. I can’t prove or disprove His existence. In my faith, you have to make a choice to believe and reap the consequences of the wrong choice. Having been trained as a scientist, I have difficulty with anyone who turns scientific investigation as a faith or dogma. “Evolution”, “Big Bang”, “Global Warming”, are all part of what once was scientific investigation, but yet which are now all defended with such dogmatic fervor that I expect them to sing a closing hymn and pass the plate. I agree with Einstein: “God does not play dice.”

No doubt Anne was a great artist. I never cared for Joan Jett, anyway. Who needs testosterone in a leather skirt? But the insinuation in the comic was perfect for the time in which it was written. Of course, they could have used “Karen Carpenter” instead, and Milo would have been killed!

Hugh, your animations are priceless. The one of this strip captures Calvin in his essence.

Does anyone know - has Chip kept Louie’s birthday on October 20 each year? We could add him to our calendars, etc.
