    Interesting how we perceive ‘coolness’ and toughness.’
    For example, we think male ballet dancers are gay and effeminate… despite the fact that they are highly athletic and spend most of their time dancing with women.
    We think football players are straight… despite the fact that they spend most of their time in locker rooms with other men … grappling with other men… and, apparently, many of them are gay!
    Popular conception can be so puzzling.

    Boiling oil was not used in medieval sieges, that’s pure Hollywood. Heated sand was more commonly used.

    Tarzan was actually raised by great apes. He lived in a jungle that contained lions and elephants. Africa was still a mysterious continent about which little was known.
    In the books, he spoke with perfect diction, no ‘Me Tarzan’.

    He built the Great Eastern, the largest vessel ever launched before the Twentieth Century. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a white elephant and was only useful for laying the Transatlantic cable.
    Apparently, the Eiffel Tower was only supposed to be a temporary structure.
