I wonder how Phil would have felt if he’d be bested by Gustine. At least he could argue that he was beaten by someone larger and stronger.

My guess is that Phil is just a bully who likes beating up on people and likes the idea that nonreptilians like Chic and Wally are fair game. He’s upset that Wally upset his fun by knocking him senseless even though he was unarmed and was MUCH smaller. He wants a rematch, probably suitably rigged so that he can actually win.

Well, she is too tomboyish to carry a purse…

A teenage guy who doesn’t have hormones??? Yeah right!

When he was explaining the colony to Sarah, Piotr explained the one mutation only policy in terms of “one in body, one in mind”. That external conformity would be the most certain road to harmony. The rift between Phil and the leader suggests we have more of a “one in body, many in mind” situation. Some folks, like Mr. Pepper, follow the official line. The treating mutants as second class citizens is an act to make them feel unwelcome and get them to leave. Phil is suggesting that there are others, like him, who sincerely believe the whole “reptilian supremacy” thing. The question is, are there enough to force the fearless leader’s hand?

The fact that the guy asks “who are you talking about” suggests that the other men don’t seem to find Nera as seductive as Jonah does.

No he would not! Even Dr. Lee can wear a woman’s swimsuit better than he does.

I’m tempted to say “go back to the beginning” (1/19/09) and read from there. Going through the whole thing may seem daunting, but its a good story and you’ll get to experience it one strip to the next which is the best way to read any comic.

Still, if you just want to know about the dittos, you could start at 7/17/09, which is where Al & Gustine (the original protagonists) ran into them. Wally and Holly first meet them on an ill fated rocket mission starting on 1/30/12. I’m just giving you the beginning dates as you will have to go through quite a few strips to really understand about them.

The simple answer is that dittos are living pixel creatures that can be used to create illusions. They can behave as a sort of perfect “adaptive camoflage” to render objects (or people) invisible. They can also recreate scenes from people’s memories. They cannot (however) create sound. They also have some degree of intelligence, though how much is unknown, and can “read” minds. Wally had obtained some of these dittos from Professor Mallard (the strip’s resident omnidisciplinary scientist) who obtained them from a character named Aaron Marx. Please, don’t ask me to explain Aaron Marx.

I realize that they seem to have an advanced understanding of dittos, and were the first group I’ve seen control somebody else’s dittos. Still, the colony is so low tech, by Endtown standards or even possibly West Albion standards that I’ve assumed that they have no use for technology. The fact that they had little interest in the other objects the group had seems to support that assumption. Still, the fact that they’re interested in the brain suggests that they may have a secret tech area.

Whenever I watch the “Dance of the Hours” part of “Fantasia” that has that tune I find myself hearing “Hello Mudda…”
