When people are free to pursue their own self-interest, that IS the public good. But most people have been propagandized to think self-interest means cheating, lying, stealing, driving the wrong way on one-way streets, and pushing old ladies off the sidewalk into traffic. REAL self-interest requires respecting everyone’s rights in order to protect your own.

But now if you succeed at it they attack you, tell you that you didn’t build that and take it away from you and give it to those who are unwilling to do so.

The issue comes with defining “the common good.” For instance, the definition the Obamanation uses generally spells disaster for most or all.

The problem is that if your self interest doesn’t extend to paying your workers well is a problem. You moving off shore just to pocket the “savings” also not good for everyone else. Creating products that do more harm than good (car alarms and leaf blowers) makes things less than good. The rest of us suffer for it not profit by it.

So, Nighty, exactly how much should everyone be paid? Are you suggesting people should be paid more than they are worth? Worse yet, more than the equivalent of what they produce? That’s not pay, that’s charity. As for moving off-shore, look in your closet and see if you have any clothing less than 20 years old “Made in USA”. Probably not. If your clothes were still made here, you would likely complain about the high cost. As for car alarms and snow blowers, you’ll just have to suffer while others pursue their values, not yours.

    .
    - Frito Lay sells a blend of Doritos, Cheetos, Rold Gold Pretzels, and Sunchips; it’s called, quite appropriately, “Munchies.”

These days only the CEOs get paid more than they are worth while their subordinates get paid less than they are worth.

    LEAF blowers. Please read carefully.
    -
General pay now adjusted for inflation is less than in the 1970’s for the average worker. This while CEO’s are getting up to 345 times what their lowest paid employee. It use to be just 24 times. It should return to that value or raise those of the workers to be on the same ratio.

No, Night is constantly complaining that he has trouble finding employment. I can’t imagine why. He must be a real joy to be around.
