@ NightGaunt — got your reply from yesterday but it got pretty nasty so I’m replying here. I have not read The Handmaid’s Tale; only know the story from DosQueen’s synopsis. Suffice it to say that today’s utter lack of critical thinking and the likewise utter lack of any framework on which to base critical thought along with an astonishing willingness to sell one’s moral authority for the price of social acceptance is a recipe for the worst disaster ever imagined in fiction.

Sadly we are closer to that point now then when the novel was published. The film of the same name gives an idea of a possible way it could be like. Not a pleasant place for 90% of the surviving population. And those walls will show their other, unstated function.

Did you notice 2 years ago or so how suddenly it is very difficult to get passports now? Besides being ridiculously invasive there are time limits. And if you don’t have all the data they demand you not only fail. They may just arrest you for lying even if you just didn’t recall all the places you worked at. I find it one of those subtle attacks on us. To keep most of us here.
