When I was a child, I wasn’t allowed to go trick-or-treating.
My parents were Orthodox Jews, and Halloween was considered “pagan” (they never explained that to me).
Finally, when I was 12, I went out for the first time and it was great fun.
Religion—meh!!!!

@SUSAN NEWMAN
Both sets of grandparents were Orthodox Jews. As a result, I was brought up as what my mother called a “non-practicing Jew”. I think that I missed a lot.

@Susan Newman: Halloween is a corruption of Hallows Eve, or the eve before All Saint’s Day. It is a Christian concept. Personally, I just consider it a chance for families to have fun and merchants to get money. I am glad you got to get in on some of the fun.

@The Life I Draw Upon
Actually, the Catholic church (I believe), altered a druid ritual to “Christian-ize” it, as they did with Easter & Christmas. They were attempting to evangelize the pagans by giving them an alternative to their pagan holy days.
