It’s only cheating if you get caught, or snitch yourself out like a bimbo.

… Mom’s harsh. Teena got an exactly appropriate punishment, not light.

Getting off lightly would just be having to write the test.

My son-in-law caught the son of one of the other college professors cheating and went to the dean for guidance. Failed the fool! He had been simply downloading papers off the internet and submitting them as his own.

Mrs. Keene and the teacher are making too much over the fainting incident. Letting Teena retake the test would have been sufficient.

Jeri sleeps quite soundly. She and her conscience have separate rooms.

    On separate continents.

A good punishment - I hope the teacher also complimented her on her honesty as she DID fess up and do the right thing in the end. Oftentimes screwing up, then admitting you screwed up and taking your punishment is harder than just continuing down the original path.

    Well done, Teena.

Yukoneric - I think that is a widespread problem. I know in my son’s Technical Writing class, before they turn a paper in, they have to submit it to some website first that will check it against other written materials. It has to have a rating of 50% or less to be acceptable. My son was thrilled when he submitted his last paper and got a 8% commonality rating. I don’t know the website’s name, but it is a tool that colleges can use to fight plagarism.

You can cheat on tests but not out there in real life. That means you don’t know what your doing and could hurt yourself and others. Some systems you can’t game without lethal consequences. Also it makes for a very depression civilization. Welcome to Pottsylvania. (See Bullwinkle and Rocky)

But yet again, what exactly does Tess think, that Teena should have done in that situation? She accidently studied the wrong chapter and freaked out. It’s not like Teena is a bad girl, like someone else in that family. She just made one mistake. And I think giving Teena an automatic F and making her do an essay wasn’t the right way to go of the teacher either. Just let her do the test another day instead. And then, her mother thinks she got off lightly? Yuck…

I agree with Furienna - way to slam an otherwise notably honest and good kid for making a mistake because she was scared and used poor judgment. I’d say her conscience taught her the lesson already.
