Dogs may not see in colour, but they sure smell in colour!

Actually, it’s been determined that cats and dogs can distinguish colour, just not to the extent that humans can.
They also rely less on colour distinction.

Second panel is a near perfect visual depiction of the odor from my cats gaseous emissions late in her life.

Many times I’ve seen comic artists pay “tribute” to Bill Watterson’s work and/or style (or just blatantly rip him off) – this is, perhaps, the only time I’ve seen it done by someone who actually knew what they were doing and didn’t embarrass themselves in the attempt. And managed to do it in a way that made sense in the context/continuity of the strip! Bravo.
