I bawled my eyes out at the scene in season 5 of All Creatures Great & Small when Herriot’s faithful companion Dan collapsed and died after taking his final walk.
The piece of poignant incidental music was absolutely spot on.

i TOO have bawled my eyes out over these lovely creatures – great & small. Over Paul, and Dan, and the horse that had it’s ears pricked…. I guess the show tells us that not all life is great… My sis just had to put her doggy to sleep… and she is mourning the dog as a mother would mourn her child.
