Because if they are YOUR cat, they love you. Just like a dog, but not as slobbery.

That is a question that has plagued dog owners and dogs alike for ages!!

I’ve heard about these aloof cats, but I’ve never met one. Mine won’t leave me alone.

Jo Jo, hehe same here! And well - prefer a cat to a Poncho-ish dog any day, aloof or not…

I had a cat – once. It tended to attack anyone who came into the house, and I mean violently. My dog greets people at the door, wags his tale, sniffs them then goes and lies down. I’ll take that any day.

One Swallow doesn’t make a Summer; two cuddly cats don’t make it for the cat population. Sorry - dogs for me anytime!

Dogs are whores. Cats are courtesans. (No disrespect to all you whores out there.)

WoodEye and Jo Jo are both correct. I keep telling Macushla cats are supposed to be aloof and independent but she’s totally co-dependent on me. She follows me around and when she’s in a room with me she wants to be on my lap. If the door is shut she has this habit of sitting at the door yammermeowing until I have to open the door and let her in. I do love her but I hae other things to do besides pet a cat all day.

Answer: people tolerated cats originally due to a “bargain”–the people would occasionally feed the cat milk or other dairy products (which cats like as a treat) and the cat would destroy portions of the mouse and rat population (undesirable to people as these rodents eat or destroy food supplies and buildings, and spread much disease), the people would also not protest about the cats’ “collateral” reduction of desirable songbirds (but not undesirable birds such as ravens/magpies/jackdaws…).

Relationship has now transmogrified to: people feed the cats expensive foods (which cats fuss for) and dairy products regularly, and the cats still reduce the populations of desirable birds.

Macush you may have other things to besides petting your adorable cat, but are they things you’d rather do?

When the time comes to Catapult this particular cat into the sun, will Poncho hesitate? Probably not…

This is a great video and I think it says it all….

You have to copy and paste in your browser though as the link is not complete here in the message box.

Joanie… I couldn’t get that link to work even when I copy/pasted it.

    I got this message:

Probably not but they’re still things I have to do. And I do spend plenty of time with her so she has nothing to complain about really. She certainly gets the lion’s share of my attention, compared to the other two cats who don’t get as much.

Now I have to let her back in the room since she can’t stand to be away from me.
