    A handshake is much more personal than any of the later greetings. I can tell a lot about a person who shakes my hand…

    But you can also tell a lot about a person by how they speak and dress. Some dude can just develop a fierce handshake to cover his other personal flaws, assuming he doesn’t have arthritis.

    I could add a variant on this: Pluggers don’t high-five or fist-bump when meeting someone for the first time. Not that I find anything wrong with those gestures, but I would never regard them as appropriate for introducing oneself.
