In Elememtary school, every kid came in raincoat, rain hat, rubber shoes…Not that it rained much.

A bigger hat would fix the problem.

I remember wearing a raincoat like that! It was 6th grade and the school safety patrol (1st captain here) wore these on rainy days. Very early 70’s. Sigh…………

I’ve never owned a raincoat in my life. I have an umbrella now though. When it rained I just got soaked. No big deal. I don’t think many kids had them in my town. Unlike most kids, I could have used a raincoat since I was outside for my paper routes every day, instead of inside watching The Brady Bunch and then reporting on hot Marsha was the next day.

When I was working, I had a whole wardrobe of raincoats, carrying extras in the car with me.
Believe me, they all leak eventually, even sealed Gortex. You learn how to layer them, each with inside and outside pockets. Tools could get lost in there.
Carried umbrellas, too, but they are hard to use when your hands are occupied with clipboards, pencils and cameras.

    I still sweat with Gortex.

I do have a proper rain coat but I have usually done the convert the trash bag into a rain poncho. I prefer umbrellas myself.
