Lately it is becoming more about age than plugging. (not saying I don’t fall into both categories, but there are a lot of pluggers too young to remember Dick, Jane and Spot running.)

Don’t remember Spot … do remember the books by Thorton W. Burgess about the Laughing Brook and Smiling Pool.
Actually, there is an anime show, Fables of the Green Forest, based on those books.

I must predate that, because my first reader was about Bill and Susan.

I remember those 1st grade Dick & Jane primers and thinking to myself “Real people don’t talk like this.”

Well I guess that makes it official, I am a plugger. I saw Dick, Jane and Spot run, jump and play. Those were still the first grade readers in the 70’s.

If that’s a 1st grade math primer he’s got, I could have used that after graduating high school. My math was about on a 1st grade level or so. I would have liked having had that book to review, and then go to his second grade primer. For that matter, I needed all of his primers, math and otherwise. My reading wasn’t that hot either. That old plugger had it good in his time. The school issued him textbooks. In those days teachers were teachers, instead of entitled punks who used the weight room all day and were spoiling for a fight. My school shanghaied me onto the football team, and issued me a gorgeous game day uniform. Then I stood on the sideline wearing it, and was dumped me into classes with no textbooks, or any teaching. It was just disorder and chaos.
