That is what I was going to say…Pluggers would have watched Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians…When I was a kid that is what we watched when we got a TV…then we went out with my Dad and banged on pie tins and honked the car horn…

At 50, I consider myself a young plugger. I remember watching Guy Lombardo and Dick Clark. Now with them both gone my youth has truly disappeared.

The NEW years were better in Guy Lombardo’s days.

Agreed! At 55, I remember watching Guy Lomabardo and the Royal Canadians with my parents and having Dick Clark on the other TV (our old B&W which went into the kids’ room when we got a bigger set). Dick Clark on WABC and Guty Lomabardo on WCBS. Johnny Carson on WNBC.

I’m glad to see the comments that appear here! I thought when I read today’s caption that I must be a plugger emeritus. I quit watching new years tv specials way before Dick Clark took over the tradition………….

Remember Clarkola? To get your tune played on American Bandstand, you had to give 30% of all royalties to Dick Clark.

And now we get to look forward to spending New Year’s with Ryan Seacrest…
I think I’ll turn in early.

I’m staying up to watch Kathy Griffith on CNN. (I remember when Dick Clark took over the local Philly show “Bandstand” when the previous host was arrested for messing around with the teenage girls.)

There was a time when we had to stay around for another three hours to entertain the drunks before packing up our instruments and try to get home without being killed by a drunk coming from the OTHER side of town..
Musicians, stay aware, it’s Amateur Night out there !

Guy Lombardo went and took New Year’s with him.

That is presumptuous that no one else can do it as well as the Late Great Dick Clark.
