The parts store owner knows it won’t be long before he gets those parts back.

All in one – buy it, use it, destroy it when it dies!

Amen, Chas60… one of the few good points of living in CA was being able to head down to these salvage yards and poke around for the parts you needed. It cost a dollar to get in, plus the price of anything you pulled out… even when I wasn’t looking, it was a blast to go “exploring”. Where else could you have that much fun for a buck!!??

I wish! Seems like the cars I’ve owned never end up in the yards OR the same parts failed on every car there.

Amen Daniel! I remember one place with a box full of hood
ornaments and another with Model A Fords piled 3 high!

And if you’re looking for an electronic part, like the computer brain, it’s a crap shoot if you’re buying more junk or not, because electronic parts are not refundable. I got lucky first time out and pulled a good one. Luck of the draw.

Used parts for a used car.

and that’s IF your local junkyard doesn’t crush everything more than 15 years old! lots of these in the northeast operate this way. oh, that’s right, it’s cheaper and (not) more “green” to sell our scrap to china and buy it back as steel parts!

I don’t like the sound of that. My car is 20 years old so this is a problem if I do need body panels or something like that.

Make it do,
Wear it out,
Use it up,
Do without.

wes clark: I remember in the late 1930s we did that with Japan. After we stopped, they dumped a part of it into Pearl Harbor.

Of course back then, anyone born in Hawaii was a US citizen. It was only after it became a state that people questioned it.

That stupid “Cash For Clunkers” program just about killed the used car market. I know first hand of 3 used car dealers that were hurt so bad they went out of business.

You know you’re a plugger when you go to the wrecking yard for parts and see several cars you’d like to take back home and fix up!
