Its been done and commented on way too much: as in “now he is moving his right foot forward”. Inane’ the creep must have been a sports caster in an earlier life.

Trickle down ate the revenues, wars in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan ate the science budget.

There was a Cold War on and once we won the space race portion, there wasn’t any reason to continue the program.

You know, science fiction writers back in the day imagined a lot of things that have happened since — but I can’t think of one who ever dreamed that we would achieve space travel, get to the moon…and then simply quit because we got bored and it was more trouble than it was worth.
    .
We, as a society, lost our balls, our spine, and our spirit, all at the same time. It’s really unspeakably depressing.

Well, once you’ve gone there, then it gets old. Gotta try something new.

…or maybe the 3rd Transformers movie was actually RIGHT!?! Think about it… if we just needed to get up there to investigate the alien space ship, why go any farther? ;-)

It had to be a government project. It was all about military superiority in space.
Would the US or the Soviets be calling the shots.
The President thought it was necessary, the Pentagon thought it was important, and Congress funded it.

We stopped because we quit dreaming. We became so self centered that we could not see beyond our own selves.

The real reason we had a race to the moon was political. The science was secondary otherwise we would have continued it.
