Or have the grand kids find an online store that sells antique radio parts (antique is usually defined as an item over 50 years old).

I think I recognize that tube. It’s a real radio tube, pentode, I think. (Hah. ‘pentode’ isn’t even in my spell checker)
Just googled it. Yup, pentagrid frequency converter tube, circa 1948. and you can still get them, apparently.

Our corner drugstore had a tube tester for radio and TV tubes which they kept in stock, saving a trip to the appliance repair store.
The only thing I miss about that era electronically was that some of the radios and TVs were really attractive pieces of furniture.

Pieces of furniture is right. Usually one inoperative TV was used as a table for another. O, those were the good old days.

My Brother has a beautifully restored old radio in his living room.
Still works

The tv on top of another tv is one of Jeff Foxworthy’s ways to tell if you’re a redneck! Maybe that’s just another name for Plugger??
tedcoop said, about 1 month ago
The terms “plugger” and “redneck” are not equivalent – but there is substantial demographic overlap.

My old receiver stereo had two furniture style speakers. I use the speakers as end tables. They are made of real wood and not wood chips combined with glue. The shipping weight for them was 55 lbs each.
One of these days, I am going to take the woofers and tweeters out of them and put shelves in them. My late partner left the stereo to me in his will. I still have it and I have a TV setting on top of it inside of the entertainment center.
I had promised to give the receiver part of it to a guy; but, since he and I are no longer on speaking terms, I am going to have to find another way to dispose of it properly.
I now have a table-top combo radio/CD player stereo with detachable speakers. It’s setting on top of the entertainment center.
Jeff Foxworthy is an expert on rednecks like some teetotaler stand up comics are on drunks. He’s not really a redneck; but, apparently he has relatives who are.
When I worked on farms and did light industrial day labor outside jobs, I had a red neck. But, I don’t fit the redneck stereotype.

I wish they would quit sending the yellow pages to my apt.

Hey, I hear Congress members have pages. What color are they?
aldridgeg said, about 1 month ago
Yes, you can still get them along with 6SJ7’s and a host of others.

“Pluggers are technologically inept.”
———————————-
Diagnosing and repairing your own technology is not inept. Throwing out your own technology because somebody tells you it’s out of date is both inept and insane!

I am still selling these wonderful things! Thanks to Mike from the Antique Radio Forums for posting the link for this radio-related comic! noveltyradio.com
