Oh well, it’s the time together that really counts. They can pick up fish at the market on the way home.

My dad used to take me and my sisters fishing every year. Him and 3 girls I think he spent more time trying to keep our attention than he did fishing. He even went into the lake head first after I stopped paying attention to my pole. Good memories though

Fishing isn’t about catching, Nelson. Fishing is about sitting quietly in Nature, chilling out. The fishing pole is an excuse…half the time there’s no bait on the hook anyway.
These days you’re supposed to “catch/release” in a lot of places, which seems kinda rough on the poor old fish…rip their mouths with a hook for what? So they can brag about their scars to the other fish?

They’ll probably die from the injuries you give them anyway.
Release to be torn apart by other predators.

The term “fishing” implies uncertainty of harvest since they stopped selling dynamite at every hardware store.

Doesn’t this kid have a mom and dad?
    Shouldn’t he be in school?
But, it’s the time together, finding the answers to life’s questions.
    I’m sure they’ll go again.

As children, we always went to places that had lots of bluegills and pumpkinseed fish. Every kid caught something. When my little sister caught her first fish, she was so excited she ran into the water to get it.

    Yes, Nelson has a mother.
She is busy doing other things for her son.
No, it is not a school day in the Pickles universe and time line or else Nelson would be in school.

Re: Catch and release, most often the hook catches the fish in a membrane between the mouth and the lip, which tolerates a hook much better than a mammal’s lip would. Usually not a super big deal to the fish. Very little in the way of blood supply or nerve endings there.

I’d have preferred to go to the baseball game. At least there’d be a small chance of catching a baseball…or a bat.
