Oh great, get lead and wrap it around your head, Nelson. That ought to be really healthy.

Looks like Nelson is wearing the same type of
helmet that Lance Armstrong used to wear.

Should be fine as long as he doesn’t lick it.

Can a person Nelson’s age afford lead? (Hi, everyone, “backwards MORMON” here. Sorry I’ve absent for a about week. My profile went screwy somehow. So “templo SUD” my new GoComics name from now on.)

Welcome back. We have all been having problems with the wonderful folks at Go Comics.

Problems? No, challenges! Yet I retain my sanity and dignity (well, pretty much).

I haven’t had trouble with disappearing posts … just pressing submit … and nothing happens … or waiting for a minute for the strip to load .. .and seeing a coloured square.
Yet, I manage to hang on to my insanity … er … sanity.

Maybe Lance Armstrong thought he could get away with all the stuff he did because no one could read his mind with his bike helmet on.

Public Service Announcement : Lengthy direct contact exposure to lead can still cause lead poisoning. Harmful amounts of lead can be absorbed through the skin.
.
That’s something I had to worry about, working with Sign Paint for years.

At least you weren’t working with radium paint

Some lead compounds can be absorbed through the skin. Lead metal cannot. Indeed, lead metal is surprisingly non-bioavailable. Bullets will linger in the body until they are removed by surgery. People after the civil war carried them for decades.
.
Not only did I grow up in a house that had lead solder, but I used to work with solid lead plates weighing 50# by hand when I worked for the Corps of Engineers. A hair test toward the end of my tenure there indicated no lead at all. Little metal at all, actually, which I put down to drinking large amounts of soft water every day.
.
On the flip side, some lead compounds are easily absorbed by the body. While it was an extreme rarity for kids to actually eat lead paint and thus to get poisoned, a few did every year and lead chromate and lead dichromate was banned for civilian use. Military bans eventually happened. Lead poisoning is incredibly rare in the U.S. A few micrograms naturally occurring in water in places like the lead belt is not a problem.
.
Compare that with central Africa where kids are routinely poisoned.
