    The development of English started to split in two directions over 400 years ago….
    NONE of us still speak the speech of Dr. Johnson…


    No reason for either side to follow the other …
    OR to think they’re the only ones who went in the right direction…

    SS, you are right in a sense, but I think that the divergence of English is a trend that should be restrained. Otherwise English will cease to be the world’s lingua franca (in your ears, Frogs). I’m already worried about Australia and Scotland. To paraphrase ‘Enry ’Iggens, why can’t the Commonwealth speak English?
