If he was a demon or monster, he could have told him no? I don’t think so with Grandma sitting there.

This is all screwed up—the bible says no one has ever seen God—so how can you dress up like Him? Is Nelson trying to be Jesus?

The Bible was written before that George Burns-John Denver movie.

I agree with the grandpa. It’s been bothering me through this whole arc.

He just looks weird with his red hair and the white beard and robe. He needs a white wig or something and then he can be the old man at the top of the mountain in the Ziggy comic.

In this day and age, I think his grandparents may be the only ones who care if he goes as a demon, sadly.

What with the popularity of anime and manga, kids and teens only know the word “demon” to be a title you tack onto your hero-villain to make him ten times cooler.

On a less unpleasant note, Nelson’s not trying to be sacrilegious. He’s just a little kid goofing off. He said himself that he wanted to go as God because he likes God, so he probably doesn’t understand the negative side of the situation. He’s a kid, after all; I’m sure God understands.

Woah…I’d forgotten how seriously I take comics. ._.

Demons & monsters are scary and that’s what its all about. Opal doesn’t get it.

I’d rather have my kid dress up as a demon than say Peter Pan.

The description of the “Son of Man” in both the Old and New Testaments is actually that of Jesus who has the position of the Christ in heaven.

So. Nelson is dressing as the Son of Man who is also known as the only begotten Son of God. But, neither he nor Earl seem to know that.

Actually, no one has seen God’s face and lived according to the Bible.

But, Jesus told his disciples, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.”

In Genesis 18, Abram (later called “Abraham) sees 3 men walking down the road and he offers them hospitality.

Two of those men leave and go to Sodom. Those 2 are actually angels.

The man who stays behind to talk to Abram turns out to be “the LORD.”

Abram/Abraham was the ancestor of Moses and he was the one who was told by God that no one had see his face and lived.

So, the “LORD” of Genesis 18 has to be the Son of God.

Abraham’s grandson, Jacob, wrestled with a man and that man turned out to be the LORD also.

It is funny that Earl gave the remote to Nelson. Nelson actually lives next door to the Pickles with his mother and step-father.

My older sister’s 7 year old grandson spends a lot of time with her and her husband. But, they don’t live next door to each other. My sister moved last week and now they live in the same town where Brad goes to school. But, he lives about 2 miles away in a rural community.

It is a long standing tradition in comics (and elsewhere) to portray God as an old man with a white beard.
Nelsons costume reflects this iconic image.

Why would a parent object to a son dressing up as Peter Pan?

Peter Pan was just a boy who never wanted to grow up and could fly.

    @ kreole

That’s funny. I can find several references to people seeing God in the Bible.

From Genesis 32:30 to Acts 7:56

In the “B.C”, “Wizard of Id”, and “Pickles” strips anything from the 21st Century BC can show up in them.

I don’t think it’s that big a deal that he’s dressed up as God. It’s more of a concern that he’s getting into the role. 8-(
