Deadly ballet. “One two, one two, and through and through, Satori’s sword went snicker-snack! She left Tom dead, and with his head, she went galumphing back.”
There, that’s better.

I see, basically, just two moves, with some intermediate positions: starting top-right, diagonaling down-left, =one move; pause; stance at mid-right, and move at lower right.

You’re welcome mr.roberts. I’ve met some pretty decent L.E. folk along my way. My cousin Tim use to be a copper and then later mayor of the small western NY town he lives in. I believe he is currently among the retired. I think you’re going to do just fine.
ladywolf I’m sorry to hear of what happened at school. As the others stated, take it up the chain. If it has to go to the board or superintendant, so be it. If these people are regular trouble makers, well, it’s one more mark against them.

My only saving grace is that my lovely wife is creative, and very “right-brained” which complements my abilities. Together we form a rounded whole.”
You are so lucky to have found someone who compliments you so well. At almost 50 I have yet to find my other half. I am a right-brainer (Okay, I’m a guy so I am frequently a no-brainer) in search of someone who can balance the checkbook, keep the pantry stocked and deal with other such daily organizational problems that I seem to have a problem with. Or as my buddy, also a creative type, once said “We are two directors in search of producers.”

Did you ever have to deal with a… Bureaucracy?
One of my interests through the years has been American Chestnut, Castanea dentata. There are only a few hundred mature trees left and almost all of them are in the Willamette Valley that were brought in by settlers prior to the blight that wiped them out east of the Rockies. The American Chestnut Society and other efforts are each trying to breed hybrid trees from European and Asian trees, which would not actually be American Chestnuts and there may be resistant trees in the original species. (One copse of the real thing was found at the extreme south end of its range in Georgia 3 years ago, but they were all young trees.) A couple of times, I’ve suggested to Oregon State U the creation of a couple of reserves in SW Oregon and NW California in isolated areas for breeding stock and to prevent the loss of the species entirely once the Willamette Valley finally gets the blight. Eventually it will happen, given its agricultural use and the continuous stream of diseases and undesirable that keep arriving, such as sudden oak death. I asked them for advice and if they had logs of which landowners still had specimens of the tree that I might contact to purchase raw nuts from for seed and where I might get grants from to start the project. Their reply both times was “good idea, go to it,” as if I could afford to do it on my own and hadn’t asked anything else.
In 2002, I started another attempt and to find out specific information on the silviculture of the tree. How it grows, how much water, how long until thinning, how long until first crop, that kind of thing. While it used to account for ¼ of all trees of the Eastern forests, information is now pretty scarce. At the time, I was working for one of the sub-agencies of the Commerce Department, dealing with endangered species near the Oregon border of California. I wrote the Forest Service’ Northeast Research Station in Pennsylvania, figuring that if anyone had old records of it, they would. Instead of looking into it, they noted that I was writing from California and just bounced the request to the Southwest Research Station in California, who simply wrote me and said, “there are no chestnuts in California.”
I didn’t reply, but that is one of the very few times I was sorely tempted to be sarcastic or at least say a resounding “DUH!!!!!!”

MoonsingerFan said: “ladywolf17, I’m sorry to hear that you were mistreated at school. Bravo to you for not getting drawn into a fight, but if there was truly bullying it must be reported, especially if you were physically attacked. Did the PE teacher write up the boys in question? If not, you should report it to someone. In my school district, students can write up complaints against other students if the behavior warrants it, and can be proved.”
I agree. In my adult life I have discovered that simply standing up to a bully, showing the strength of your convictions, is usually enough. On a couple of occasions I have done the “I am a rock. I will not be moved.” routine. Always stay in control, deny them the excuse to escalate the situation. No violence needed. Frustrates the bejeezus out of them! I just wish I had learned that lesson in grade school, my life would have been considerably less of an ordeal.
Like so many things in life, it is about power and control. Bullies don’t have any so they take out their frustrations on others. When they discover that they can feel in control of a situation by being a bully, it becomes the only thing in their life that gives them any satisfaction. The “rock” routine does two things, it denies them that pleasure, and so they will avoid you if they can - usually - and it maintains your control of the situation. No emotion, no wasted energy.
Is it any wonder that the scene in Lord of the Rings where Gandolf is denying the Balrog passage is so powerful to me?

If you cannot send the pinhead a California chestnut, send him a picture of the tree, perhaps with the GPS coordinates noted. Ignorance of that kind should be fought at every turn. And thank you for your efforts. All of the Old Man’s creations are of value. Ten years after the last chestnut dies, they may find that the cure for cancer was in the bark of the chestnut tree. You just never know.

I am proud of you for not starting a fight with those Arschlöcher but you must report this - such assaults (and that is what they are) must not be tolerated - the perpetrator will do it to others and possibly hurt them far worse - in reporting them you may even save a life. Two, for the perpetrator’s life would be ruined should he permanently hurt someone.
I have always stood up to bullies - not fought them (at least, not with fists) but took a stand and make like a rock - even in school I was known for that, and despite being considered one of the weird ones at school (I wasn’t a jock or an ob - the two divisions we had - you were either going to be a killer or a priest where I went went to school) everyone knew they could line up behind me to right a wrong, and that won me respect. Occasionally.
Don’t ever take this sort of thing lying down - be the rock and let them know it stops right there. Report these boys and let them know in no uncertain terms that this sort of thing will not stand.
Be brave, for it takes bravery to stand up to bullies, and be calm and sure of your rightness in this. And if need be, take this all the way to the top if you get no response from your gym teachers. My prayers will be with you all the way.
