Old Wolf, I agree: sure would be nice to have a crossing guard like that [mostly irrelevant: I was a “patrol boy” (as we called them, back then) in, I think, 6th grade].
A.J. posted the Boilerplate before me, so I took mine down and made room for the Quiz Results.
Ranma 1/2 is a well written Manga/Anime series and well worth the effort. It’s best to start at the beginning. The first episode sets the whole thing up. When I saw it for the first time, I played it on a VCR for a coworker, but I didn’t tell him anything before it started. I wanted him to figure out what was going on by himself.
The subtle, contrasting expressions in panels 2 and 3 are telling indeed. TomT can imagine nothing else, while Dru is wary and wise. Let the slicing and dicing begin!
I guess being protective is instinctual. I remember a few years back when I nearly wandered mindlessly into a street, and my son grabbed my arm to stop me.
I was too shocked by the irony (I’m supposed to be protecting him) to say anything about it!
My avatar is of John Hainey. At eight years old he was rescued from a fire. He had a stroke which affected the left side of his body. He walked with a stick, but had to use a wheelchair to slow him down! He spoke with a broad Scottish mumble, only being understandable to those that spent time with him. He was uneducated, not able to read or write.
But he taught many about acceptance and friendship. When any new person came to a meeting, his would be the first hand to reach out in greeting. He was an amazing Dominoes player, and would always invite new people to play with him (to his rules, mind).
He had a wicked sense of humour and would use his disability to good effect. He loved the ladies. Sometimes, he would touch their behind. When the lady turned around to see him, anger quickly went, as did the lady!
It is said that a wise man can learn from anyone. I do not consider myself wise, but I learned a lot from this man.

That panel reminds me… both the Amos and Elliott action figures need to have hyperventilation bags as accessories.
And you’re welcome on the BP; I figured the post was a transition-limbo thing.
I remember Barbara Powell, PhD and violinist extraordinaire, Audrey McLeason, Sandra Schmirler, John and Jean Hodges, Elizabeth Parkin, Frank Lambsdown, Maurice and Mary Shotter, Vera Slater, and Raime (whose last name I don’t know, but who was beaten to death at the age of 2 years).
Enough of the Couch of Confusion for now. Gotta head to the Waterbed of Weariness. Good night all, and may the memories of those past all be good memories, to sustain and encourage you.
In a foggy meadow at dawn: Sir! I challenge you to a duel!
Very well! Choose your weapon.
We will stand back to back, walk ten paces, turn and then fire. Are we agreed?
Yes.
Begin. 1… 2… 3..
BANG Sir… that… was only… 3 paces…
I’m sorry, I have ADD. We’ll go again. Oh, drat. My gun’s empty. can I borrow yours?
A fantastic saga of adventure both high and low, of forbidden passion and iambic pentameter, of fays, fools, organists, demons, accordions, heaven, hell and Shakespeare, Pibgorn follows the whims and flights of its eponymous fairy heroine as she plies her conviction that there must be more to life than depositing dew drops on dandelions and sleeping under mushrooms.

That reminds me of the joke about the pet store.
A lady walks in, looks at the various dogs, notices the Dachshund.
“My, but aren’t his legs awfully short?” she says.
The pet store owner replies (you can see this coming, right?) ”But madam, they’re long enough to reach the ground!”
