All Cherokee can be traced back to the Carolinas, but a great many know little of their family history any farther back than the Trail of Tears, and Oklahoma.
For all who want to know more about the Cheregoyan peoples, and want an enjoyable read as well, may i recommend the novel Okla Hannali, by R. A. Lafferty, usually a science-fiction writer (and a Hugo winner) - if you can find a copy. If you still have any respect for Andy Jackson after reading it, you weren’t paying attention. Ray Lafferty lived in Ok;aoma, and he knew and understood the Cherokee and Choctaw peoples.
Lena is taller and more human-looking than she used to be.
@LadyWolf17 A beautiful name to honor your mother. Mine, at the age of 93, is still alive - but dwelling in the shadows of forgetfulness. There is more than one way to lose a parent. May you find peace in the memories of yours.
As for getting emotional about Pibgorn, many of us are right there with you. I lived for decades with wooden heart and eye of stone. I would feel no sorrow at tales of lovers lost in April, or tales of maidens dead in June, of lovers lost at sea and drowned in fountains, or babies lost in woods or lost on mountains. Now, I weep when ships are overdue, or brooks run dry, or tangerines are overripe, or sheep get something in their eye. (If you’ve never read James Thurber’s The Thirteen Clocks, you owe it to yourself - it’s like a verbal ice-cream sundae with caramel sauce, whipped cream and cherries.)
fairportfan, regarding Satori’s katana being too long for the scabbard: I think we need to take into account the perspective of her twisting pose. That is, I think the scabbard is a bit foreshortened….
fairportfan, regarding Satori’s katana being too long for the scabbard: I think we need to take into account the perspective of her Twisting pose. That is, I think the scabbard is a bit foreshortened….
A scabbard long enough for that thing, slung the way she’s wearing it, would likely drag the ground.
Re: Lena’s appearance. One thing we’ve seen about the way Brooke works is sans style-sheet. He draws what comes out of his head, usually without referring back to what he’s done before, and the result is that the characters tend to morph more rapidly than they otherwise might.
Let’s keep the good people of the Samoas in our thoughts and prayers after the Tsunami there.
I just got home from feasting on a steampot at Joe’s Crab Shack, followed by a viewing of ”Surrogates.” I will post a review shortly. The executive summary? A-minus. I found it a smart film that asked all the right questions about a future that’s not as inconceivable as some might think.
Furthering what The Old Wolf just said, note that Roger is so scrunched under panel 1 (Nat) that he looks way smaller than Satori, whereas in past appearances they have been nearer to equal in height….
Roger should still have his blackberry or iPhone or whatever that pocket-sized computer is that he carries - and in the hands of a True Geek, I’d guess that that can be a weapon even when not in the world of Suzerain.
FairportFan, I’m not trying to avoid your question from yesterday. It’s just that what ever goes on between my dad and his side of family is personal because of bad blood. So I choose not to ask him about the family tree.

Yes they are, DemonNat pushed them out of the way to get to Dru back on the 22nd. They’re just not visibly back on their feet and in the picture… YET… (Wonder if Geoff will be in his shirtless/headband/machoman mode…)
Hmmm Let’s see… Oognat blinds ‘em w/hair in their eyes and the rest have at ‘em!! Still wondering what Roger has up his other sleeve… Although when I get a particularly knotty system problem I look like that just before a marathon typing session… So maybe Roger’s weapon of choice: a texting cellphone!!

No problem at all; my brother’s first wife (who had some Cherokee in her ancestry) wa snot on speaking terms with her family.
And let me reiterate that Ray Lafferty’s Okla Hanali is a wonderful bookthat talks about the time before and the time after the Trail of Tears in lyrical, slightly skewed prose - Ray was a classic Irish bard; a serious alcoholic, but he still wrote like an angel.
CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE JUST VANQUISHED A DRAGON WITH YOUR BARE HANDS! (UNBELIEVABLE, ISN’T IT?) THE BODY OF A HUGE GREEN DEAD DRAGON IS LYING OFF TO ONE SIDE.
A fantastic saga of adventure both high and low, of forbidden passion and iambic pentameter, of fays, fools, organists, demons, accordions, heaven, hell and Shakespeare, Pibgorn follows the whims and flights of its eponymous fairy heroine as she plies her conviction that there must be more to life than depositing dew drops on dandelions and sleeping under mushrooms.

So, let’s suppose for the moment that Roger has a library of mp3 files on his netbook or whatever it is.
He might not have Lawrence Welk, but he could easily have some klezmer, or zydeco, or…
Hey! Would a bandoneon have the same effect on demons as an accordion?
