Interesting how all the demons look pretty much the same, with the exception of lack of horns. In all the other arcs, various demons had widely differing appearances.
Could horns come with age in demons, as with many animals–so that he’d be of an earlier generation of demons than these newbies? If so, I’d guess it could be Nat….
I think the “camera” has just swung 180 degrees between panels 1 & 2 so we’re now looking at him from somewhere near the perspective of the horde. And they are seeing what we’re seeing in the second panel.
If I recollect rightly, Andre Norton was the author of the sf I read first; it was in our classroom library (bookshelves, really) when I was in 5th or 6th grade. That started something not yet stopped, though I haven’t read as much sf since, roughly, the 80s [no apostrophe needed…] as before….
Hard to tell, but, in the sketch, do the demons in the background have horns? Or are those just random lines depicting ears and various shapes of heads?
If I get my angles right, I think the big beast in the upper right corner is looking at the crowd of beasts in the main picture.
One thought: If these beasts were lodged in our nasal passages, how did so many come out of a singular man? Did they reproduce inside her, or was there a calling out that cleansed the human race of nasal problems before the real problems prepared to launch themselves onto us? And is this the preamble?
(Speaking of which, where’s Satori? And how about Spitty? I wouldn’t be surprised if HE was about to show up here.)
Was this really Tom’s doing, or was he merely the master of ceremonies or the commentator on what was going to happen anyway?
I think we’re giving Tom a lot more power than he actually has. After all, he didn’t plant those little seeds in our nasal membranes or bring about their hatchings.
However, either way, he does make an excellent scapegoat.
He has the horns…they do not. This is an Alpha demon.
The question is, though: Is that enough to induce submissive behavior in the pack?
Or is he actually going to have to fight all of them to get it?
Also: Drusilla has now been dead for four episodes.
And tomorrow is Cliffhanger Friiiiday…
Too many options, so many characters. I think I’ll sit quietly and see what happens, it’s sure to be unexpected. Since I don’t know what to expect. I’m babbling.
KalahariNight: sorry to have to correct you, but the camera only moved 90 degrees, dear.
TO everyone: thanks for the reading suggestions yesterday! Someone mentioned Pratchett; he’s read every one he could lay hands on, and loves them.
I’ll go through yesterday’s comments and collect the book suggestions when my head isn’t thundering. It’s not a migraine this time, but back and shoulder spasms. Time for the chiropractor. But for now the Robaxicet is starting to kick in… Better living through chemistry!!
Actually, I read every headache is a migraine until proven otherwise. This was from someone who had worked in a pain clinic.
Saskfan Another reading suggestion: The Riverworld series by Philip Jose Farmer. The portrayals of historical and fictional characters in a very out-of-context setting is quite unique.
Maxie may have not had all the comforts of home, but being with the old man made her happy. With an old rope that one of the homeless people found and gave to him, the old man proceeded to make a leash.
Maxie was ready to go for a walk. She barked playfully as the old man hooked up the rope to her collar. A small boy named Timmy asked his mom if he could go with them. She saw no harm in it so she allowed Timmy to go.
The three were off and soon came up to a park. The old man took his place on a bench that was in the shade and watched with a smile as Timmy and Maxie played fetch. Despite being homeless, life was good. The old man gave praise to God, and laughed as Maxie was engaged in a tug of war battle with Timmy. The old man began to have a coughing fit. He took out a handkerchief and wiped his nose and mouth. Blood! His disease was getting worse.
As the evening hour began to come near The three of them headed back to the alleyway. Timmy went back to where his mother was, and the old man and Maxie took up their spot. The night was cold, and rain began to fall. The old man shivered and coughed in his sleep. Maxie laid next to him trying to keep him warm, but even she began to shiver.
Morning soon came. The old man was up and took a sip of whiskey from his flask. It warmed him right up. He was ready to begin another day He got up to walk over to where his friends were. Without warning he fell and did not get up again By the time that his friends reached his side, he had died. Old age had got him before the lung cancer could.
9CWL: Seth, how can you stand there mixing the salad (? spaghetti, something…) and act so innocent when you’ve just scared Mary stiff and angered your roommate/dance partner (who has been know to level a bully or two)?
Hey - just a thought - all the minor demons look rather p*ed also… I wonder if they are also big fans of Dru and are blaming our horned friend , who is after all, standing over what appears to be (though I trust not permanently) a fresh body…
A fantastic saga of adventure both high and low, of forbidden passion and iambic pentameter, of fays, fools, organists, demons, accordions, heaven, hell and Shakespeare, Pibgorn follows the whims and flights of its eponymous fairy heroine as she plies her conviction that there must be more to life than depositing dew drops on dandelions and sleeping under mushrooms.

If only one has horns, is he the Big Bad? –Or is he Nat, as most commentators have suggested? In either case, he looks ticked off….

Pib: Still don’t know who this demon is. And since all the rest of them are respectfully staying back, does that mean he’s some sorta “head-honcho”?
9CWL: Mary is petrified by what she’s seeing. Although it shouldn’t have been that mind-boggling.

I’d like to see that shot try to get published in a daily newspaper… Praise the powers that be for Webcomics.
Now… is Nat - or whoever this weeping demon is - going to take on the ranks of Tophet?

Our Demon friend(?) here is looking to his left in frame 2, ie at the horde of demons in the background in frame 1.
I think we have nothing to fear - yet.

I’d say that our horned friend’s mood is one of:
“to the last I grapple with thee;
from hell’s heart I stab at thee;
for hate’s sake I spit my last breath at thee”
I’m sure that’s how I would feel…
