Hopefully Pib and Oognat will be in a position to help Dru out of this one … but at the same time I’m looking at the blood dripping off her hand in the last panel and speculating on the possibility that the blood that escapes these demons may be her means of survival.
Of course, Nat is still around and the Roger/Lena/Satori (and possibly Igor?) combo may be able to help too … Come on, Monday!

    THE WOLF

    By Ladywolf17

    Prologue

It was late May. A wolf had brought back fresh meat for his mate and their litter of four. The male wolf, and proud father of the litter of pups that lay nursing on their mothers milk, placed the rabbits carcass next to his mate and went over to his corner to lie down and sleep. During the night one of the pups left his mother’s side and went over to his father and nuzzled up to him. The father who’s name is Scar favored this pup, for it was the only male in the litter. He allowed only this pup to nuzzle up to him.

The young pup was named Kiba. Like his sisters, Kiba love to romp and play. He used his size and weight to over power his sisters every time that they got the advantage on him. Scar and his mate Maggy watched their pups play in the field. Scar watched Kiba closely. Pride filled his spirit. Someday his pup would be full grown and challenge him for leadership of the pack. Until that day arrived it was his responsibility to see to it that his family and his pack survived in the harsh wilderness that was their home.

Every day Scar went out with the pack. Sometimes his mate would join him. Sometime the pack was successful in bringing down prey like an elk or a deer. But there were days when luck was not to be had, and they would have to go hungry.

Kiba was one who didn’t let a lack of food bother him. He impersonated his father in every way. One day he got up after nursing from his mother’s milk and began to stalk something that he saw in the den. Kiba quickly leaped on it and caught it before it could take off. He had killed his first meal which was a mouse Kiba howled victoriously.

By the time the month of June came Kiba had begun to venture out of the den on his own. He had no idea of the dangers that lurked outside the safety of his den. His curiosity and desire to explore had overtaken him. Each day he ventured out a little further from the safety of his den.

He came across a badger who wasn’t to thrilled to have him as company. Kiba tried to get this fellow into a playful romp, but the bager wasn’t in the mood and bit Kiba on his right front paw. Kiba yelped with pain and whimpered as he ran all the way back to his den.

As Kiba made it back home to the den something did not seem right. Where was his family at? That night he laid in the den alone and slept. His dreams were not pleasant. Kiba dreamed of the mean old badger that had bitten him on the paw. At midnight Kiba had awakened to a howl. His mother had tracked him all the way back and had found him. She picked up Kiba by the scruff of his neck and took him to the new location. their new den. The wolf pack was on the move following their main source of food so, it was time to relocate. None of that matter to Kiba. He was just happy to be back with his parents and siblings.

    Chapter 1: The young Wolf

As summer drew to a close and autumn lurking around the corner, hunting for food began to become scarce. The wolf pack desperate to survive knew of only one possible but risky outcome that they would have to take. It was time to venture into man’s domain and take from him his precious cattle and livestock.

Kiba and his sisters were still to young to go out hunting. They were weaned from their mother’s milk now and were always at play with each other. They did not understand the laws of man yet, so when a gunshot ranged out into the air all but kiba stayed out. The wind carried the scent of gunpowder into the air. Kiba got a whiff of it and did not like the smell of it.

Kiba’s mother returned to the den limping with some cow meat for the pups. She then laid down and died. Kiba ate his share of scraps then went over to his dead mother. He sniffed the wound and could smell the gunpowder. His education in the harsh ways of man had began. He howled a lonely cry for the loss of his mother, then his sisters joined in.

Scar came home to see that his mate lay dead. Scar knew that the pups would not be safe here because of the scent of blood. It was time to move the pups. Deanna was Maggie’s sister. It would be up to her now to be a full time nanny for Kiba and his sisters.

By the Time Winter had come The pups were now old enough to join the wolf pack. Scar began to teach Kiba and his sisters how to hunt. Though food in the wild was scarce Kiba and his sisters adopted to it, and in no time became as skilled as Scar was. Kiba and his sisters were now ready to join the hunt.

There was trouble in the ranks of the wolf pack A young black wolf named Krause began to torment Scar into a challenge for leadership. Up to this point Scar had manage to put Krause in his place, but Krause was becoming to strong, and Scar was getting old. It would only be a matter of time before the leadership changed.

re: the discussion of American town names yesterday…

” I have fallen in love with American names,
The sharp names that never get fat,
    The snakeskin-titles of mining-claims,
The plumed war-bonnet of Medicine Hat,
Tucson and Deadwood and Lost Mule Flat.

Seine and Piave are silver spoons,
But the spoonbowl-metal is thin and worn,
There are English counties like hunting-tunes
Played on the keys of a postboy’s horn,
But I will remember where I was born.

    I will remember Carquinez Straits,
Little French Lick and Lundy’s Lane,
The Yankee ships and the Yankee dates
And the bullet-towns of Calamity Jane.
    I will remember Skunktown Plain.

    Rue des Martyrs and Bleeding-Heart-Yard,
    Senlis, Pisa, and Blindman’s Oast,
It is a magic ghost you guard
But I am sick for a newer ghost,
    Harrisburg, Spartanburg, Painted Post.

I shall not rest quiet in Montparnasse.
I shall not lie easy at Winchelsea.
You may bury my body in Sussex grass,
You may bury my tongue at Champmedy.
I shall not be there. I shall rise and pass.
Bury my heart at Wounded Knee.

The prime question - to me - about all the ‘E’ and “R’ going on - is…where’s Nat?

During the Dreamtine episodes, while he and Dru and Pib (and eventually Oognat) wandered through various ‘distractions’, in various groupings, his corporeal presence was in the volcano, with Dru. They were, in fact, consummating unbridled humma-humma bang-a-gong…repeatedly.

We have returned to Dru’s corporeal presence…which was, I repeat, in the volcano. The volcano has blown up, Dru’s in deep doo-doo. The corporeal presences of Pib andf Oognat (plus Maurice and Geoff, who were never involved in the Dreamtime in the first place) plus the trio of Satori, Roger and Lena, who have - literally - jumped in from a different story-arc, are - apparently - all speeding to the rescue.

When last we left Nat, his dream-self was asking Dru’s dream-self if he should ‘plug’ Tom Torquemada. That dream-self, like Pib’s and Oognat’s, has presumably dissipated.

But where’s his BODY? And why isn’t that body at least making some sort of futile effort to stop his sweetie from being turned into a Sanguinaccio Dolce?

I frankly jdon’t know what Bogie would do in this situation…but taking it on the lam sure ain’t it…

Maybe the only thing that could bring Dru back is what Nat showed her, shooting himself in the head and then getting up again.

Before shooting himself (pib 8/13/09) Nat said “We are such stuff as dreams are made on …”

Dru may be omnipotent, but Nat seems to have mastered something over and above that.
