Well, this is consistent with Maurice’s warning. We still don’t know what Dru is incubating. Demonic cold germs in her lungs or stomach?

This is probably about the only time I’ll manage to get a comment on the first page, too.

And I do like that profile shot of Dru in the last frame!!!!

BTW: I didn’t get the chance to post during the Great “DOCTOR WHO”discussion, but for my twocents I had hoped David Tennant would tie or pass Tom Baker as longest running doctor. I didn’t like the way Sylvester McCoy was ‘Offed’ in the movie version, stepping out of the TARDIS and being gunned down by Chinese Gang Thugs in San Francisco. Made me ask ,”Is that how the World sees the U.S.A? I liked the little speech at the end of “SURVIVAL” that ende with…”and somewhere the tea is getting cold!” Ialways thought they could use that as the Lead-in to the episode as a kind of ‘Spacethefinalfrontier’ thing. Too Trekky?

We’re getting to the bottom of things.

Which is not the same as ‘things are beginning to make sense’.

How is it Geoff or Geoff’s cold virus can impregnate a succubus? I find that questionable. That’s what the Torquemada says anyway. I trust Tom about as far as I can spit a Democrat.

But - as mentioned by Heckle and Jeckle back in the days of cartoons for kids; “This is the cartoons, folks!”

I’m also very curious about the chasm of self-awareness on the part of Dru. How long has this been going on (being pregnant) and why hasn’t she noticed? Has she only been percolating the length of this arc? What is the gestation period for succubi? If she’s being distracted, how did Torquemada find out before she did, in order to keep her distracted?

    I’m staying tuned.

When did Dru give Geoff the baiser de la fee? I know it was alluded to earlier with Maurice, but in which arc was it administered? Gollee, you really have to pay attention.

Also, which is the true Dru: the one watching or the pregnant one? Or is the one watching like an out of body experience?

  27. eschmenk

    eschmenkGenius_badge said, 2 months ago

Geoff and Maurice discuss Dru using the Baiser de la Fee here. Maurice implied that it wasn’t a good idea.

I think the idea is that fairies can absorb the injury or disease and cure themselves, but demons don’t have the magic to do that properly. Since they wouldn’t normally catch a cold (I suppose), who knows what would happen if they did absorb a cold into themselves?

@MurphyHerself: We didn’t actually see it. We only know that Geoff and Tom said it happened. I assume it happened just before the current arc.

Inordinately pleased with myself for correctly calling both the ‘father’ of the upcoming blessed event and the method of ‘artificial insemination’ (see yesterday’s ‘Bachelor # 3’ posting), I celebrate by bringing special goodies for all Couch wildlife (cashews for the squirrels, sourdough bagels for the ducks, Triple Berry Parfaits for the fruit-bats, ‘goat mix’ from the Catskill Game Farm for Gruff and a - surreptitious - coca leaf for Llefty) and a Symbolic Snack designed to really keep the plot moving.

I’m sure we’re all anxious to see Dru deliver, so I’m doing my best to help it along with:

    Eggplant Parmigiana Alla Scalini’s

This breaded eggplant smothered in cheese and thick marinara sauce is “guaranteed” to induce labor, claims Scalini’s Italian Restaurant, of Smyrna, Georgia.
The eggplant legend began not long after the restaurant opened 23 years ago:
“Two or three years after we began, a few people had just mentioned to us they came in when they were pregnant, and ate this eggplant and had a baby a short time after that,” said John Bogino, who runs the restaurant with his son, Bobby Bogino. “One person told another, and it just grew by itself by leaps and bounds.”
To date, more than 300 of the pregnant women customers who ordered the eggplant have given birth within 48 hours, and the restaurant dubs them the “eggplant babies.” If it doesn’t work in two days, the moms-to-be get a gift certificate for another meal.
The restaurant has graciously shared the recipe:

    INGREDIENTS:
    3 medium-sized eggplants
    1 cup flour
    6 eggs, beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs, seasoned
    Olive oil for sauteing
8 cups of marinara sauce (recipe below)
    1/2 cup grated Romano cheese
    1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 pounds of mozzarella cheese, shredded
    2 cups of ricotta cheese
    DIRECTIONS

    1. After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4-inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant before you slice it. However, you may want to leave the skin on since it contains a lot of vitamins.

    2. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle with a little salt, then cover with another layer of paper towels and hold it down with something heavy to drain the excess moisture. Let them sit for about an hour.

    3. Working with one slice of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat well with breadcrumbs.

    4. Saute in preheated olive oil on both sides until golden brown.

    5. In baking dish, alternate layers of marinara sauce, eggplant slices, ricotta, parmesan and Romano cheeses, until you fill the baking dish to about 1/8 inch from the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese, and bake for 25 minutes in a 375 degree oven. Let sit for 10 minutes before serving.

    Scalini’s Marinara Sauce

    INGREDIENTS:
    2 Tablespoons of chopped garlic
    3 Tablespoons of olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)
    1 cup onions, chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
    1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper
1/8 cup of fresh chopped sweet basil
    Pinch of thyme
    Pinch of rosemary
    One teaspoon salt
    One teaspoon black pepper
    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Lightly saute the onions in olive oil in large pot for a few minutes.

    2. Add garlic and saute another minute.

    3. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to a boil, then turn heat low.

    4. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

    Mangia, mangia, Drusilla mia!

I seldom visit here and have never commented here before, but I confess this part of the arc has a morbid fascination.

For what it’s worth, I think it was a horrid mistake to bring Drusilla into the strip at all, way back when. That kind of attitude backed by that kind of power enabled Drusilla to all but steal the show, and I actually wrote Brooke about my objection to that. That’s when I mostly stopped reading, although I thoroughly enjoyed “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and the revelation of the Secret Weapon Against Demons (the accordion!).

Maybe by this point (judging by today’s panel), Drusilla is finally going to get what’s coming to her…a whacking dose of guilt well-mixed with humility and compassion. (If that isn’t a spoonful of Hell for a succubus, I don’t know what is.) And if Tom T. gets smoked along the way, so much the better.

@wilorg, lovely anecdote about Tom Baker. As I said during the Dr. Who discussion a few days ago, he’s the quintessential Dr. in my mind (although now to hear his praise of Tennant makes me more eager to find and watch Tennant’s episodes).

One of the things that I found most remarkable about Tom Baker is his voice. It was before videocassette recorders when I first saw his episodes, and so I would tape them on audiotape. Having seen the episodes, I could easily visualize the story by listening to the audio track, but doing so also let me focus on the sound of the actors. Baker has such a mellifluous, nuanced voice, with so many harmonics, and he uses it so very well - I quickly went from “listening to the episodes” to studying his delivery.

@Talewinds Thrice welcome! Fascinating video you pointed us to… and wow, what a library! I could die in that room. Pull up a cushion and join the confusion-fest.

@Rakkav Welcome also! You’re not the first one to mention that they wish Dru hadn’t hijacked center-stage. But it is what it is, and unless Brooke stops into an ice-cream parlour and is served a mind-melting portion of caramel-cashew by a snarky server and goes into glycemic shock, I suspect the strip will continue for a long, long time - and that we’ll see more of our favorite fairy along the way. In the meantime, enjoy the morbid insanity.

Today Oh, wow. Well, Maeverin, for what it’s worth I don’t think Dru sucked out anything but the virus. As I went back and re-read the entire arc (I, like others, have to do that regularly to keep things straight) I recall that in “real life”, Drusilla has already “given birth” to something - to wit, a demonic volcano.

The nested dream sequence is confusing, but Drusilla is apparently in several places at once - as we see here. In one of those locations, it appears that inside the blazing volcano (where Pib dropped Nat) is the only one which qualifies as “Real Life”.

So at least until tomorrow, when my theory will be knocked galley-west by Brooke’s next twist, I’m thinking that the Volcano is a result of the absorbed cold virus, and that what we’re seeing now is the lead-up to that.

I’m glad we have three installments to go this week…
