Torquemada looks truly evil as the smoke being.

Pib Well. Is it safe to say that the dark cloud creature that nabbed Oognat is Tom?

Dru has this unclad, obsidian derrière, Satori is garbed from chin to toe. Hard to say which one is hotter. Got to find some way into the Pibverse so I can judge for myself…

Well, at least now we know the red sparkles on Satori’s attire appears to be part of the pattern, and not just a random swirl of colors.

Has her radically altered appearance also altered her knowledge of Roger? It might be a major bummer for Roger if it turns out she no longer knows him, or is unhappy with how he reprogrammed her.

9CWL: In both yesterday and today’s strips, Brooke has his name mirrored in the water’s reflection. Clever!

The twain are most definitely converging…as demonstrated by parallel plot-lines.
(It’s so much fun applying Non-Euclidean Geometry to the literary - not graphic - design of a comic!)

Once more…because I just really like the poem, to be honest about it…here’s Thomas Hardy’s The Convergence of the Twain (the last three stanzas):

    “Alien they seemed to be:
    No mortal eye could see
The intimate welding of their later history,

Or sign that they were bent
    By paths coincident
On being anon twin halves of one august event,

Till the Spinner of the Years
Said ‘Now!’ And each one hears,
And consummation comes, and jars two hemispheres”.

The poem is actually about the Titanic hitting the iceberg…which reminds me: Somewhere offstage, there are characters marooned on an ice-sheet…

Oh, yeah - Brooke is a master of composition that (usually) carries the reader along through even the most convoluted panel order.

    Usually.

This is the second time that Satori’s initial reaction to running into Roger has been to threaten to do grievous violence upon his corpus.

Repost from “yesterday” (with bad link pointed out by sisyphos fixed):

I was just looking back at some Exiern strips (i was hoping for an update, but not tonight) and i came to this one, which reminded me strongly of Dru’s complaint

For those who don’t know - Tiffany, the main character in Exiern, was a classic beefcake-fur-jockstrap barbarian swordsman named Typhan-Knee, until in the big fight with Faden the Evil Wizard, Faden cast what was supposed to be a death spell, but turned out to be a transformation/blonde hair/large bosoms spell…

EDIT: The two Exiern strips immediately before that one (http://www.exiern.com/index.php?stripid=85 and http://www.exiern.com/index.php?stripid=86) play nicely with the idea of Tiffany (who is still plenty tough and bad-a**, even if she is a girl) and her frame of mind/reactions…

    LOVE FOR ALL ETERNITY

    By ladywolf17

    Part Two

Two months have passed since her coronation to become Princess. One night Princess Tameara had trouble sleeping. Her tossing and turning woke her husband up. “What’s wrong! my darling angel?” Prince Aaric said, as he looked at his wife. First she told him the good news. “I’m
Pregnant!” This news filled Prince Aaric with joy. Then before Prince Aaric could say anything, Princess Tameara told him what was bothering her. “I’m sick and tired of the women in this kingdom not having rights. We women should be treated as equals just like you men are.” she said, and felt better for having said that. Princess Tamera began to show fear. She did not know how her husband would take the fact that she was speaking her mind. It was forbidden by kingdom law for a woman to speak
unless given permission to do so. Prince Aaric held his wife and hugged her then said in a loving voice that was soft and gentle. ” You and I, we are one, and if something is a bother to us then by all means, we must do something about it.” Hearing her husband’s words put her mind at ease, and she was able to finally get to sleep.

“What is this counsel meeting about, Prince Aaric?” The king and his cabinet members asked the next morning, surprised that Prince Aaric who was not known to call for
a meeting of the counsel had asked for them to meet him here in the Counsel Room. “Your Majesty, and fellow members of the counsel.” Prince Aaric said and stood up to continue, “Time has come for change. As you all know the women of this kingdom have done a great many things for us men. It is my belief that we should treat them as equals and give them rights and privileges.” Prince Aaric said looking at each counsel member. Members of the counsel began to laugh, to them this was a foolish thing that the young prince was presenting. A vote was cast and Prince Aaric was turned down. “Bunch of
old-fashion pig-headed men.” said the prince as he stormed angrily out of the Counsel Room.

That night he told his wife the bad news. The prince held his head down feeling like a failure. “Then I must round up
the women of this kingdom, Together our voices will be heard.” Princess Tameara said holding Prince Aaric’s head up to hers, then kissing him gently on the lips.

The next day Princess Tameara stood in the town square. Her voice was loud and clear as she addressed the women of the Averlon Kingdom. “Hear my voice women of the Averlon Kingdom, join with me and let your voices
be heard. Do we not wish to be treated as equals and have the same rights and privileges as the men have?”

Guards came storming over from their post and arrested Princess Tameara on the spot, not allowing her to finish her speech. Princess Tameara was taken to the king. Surely he would be reasonable. Unfortunately for her, he wasn’t. “Take her to the prison dungeon and put her in shackles, then fetch me my whip.” The king said as the guards dragged a screaming Princess Tameara away.

In the prison dungeon cell hung Princess Tameara from the shackles. The king ordered the guards to rip open the upper back end of Princess Tameara’s dress thus! exposing her back. The king then took the whip from one of
his guards and then spoke to Princess Tameara. “It is a shame that such beauty is wasted on the likes of you.” King Eerolden said, then went to her backside and dealt her twenty lashes. The king then ordered the guards to take her out of the shackles and stood her up. “You are to be executed tomorrow morning.” he said then ordered the guards to let her go. King Eerolden and his guards left, and a bloodied Princess Tameara cried.

Prince Aaric upon returning to the palace from a mission, was informed by one of his friends that Princess Tameara had been arrested, beaten, and sentence to death for the next day. Prince Aaric rushed to the prison dungeon where his wife was, and demanded to be let in. The guards ulocked the cell door and allowed the prince to entered.

He saw his wife hunched up against the wall crying. He also saw the bloody whip marks on her back. The only thing he could do was give her as much comfort as he could.

Morning came, and a freshly dressed Princess
Tameara, hands tied behind her back was led to the gallows. “For the crimes of starting a riot and plotting a rebellion against all of mankind here in this kingdom, you have been sentenced to death. Do you have any last words?” Said King Eerolden to her. She did, and she spoke her last words to her husband. “I will love you for all eternity, always
and forever.” Princess Tameara said with tears falling from her eyes. ”
Prince Aaric looked at his wife. “And I too! shall always love you now and forevermore in eternity.” Prince Aaric said with tears streaming down his cheeks. He gave her one last kiss and then yelled and fought the guards trying to restrain him as Princess Tameara’s head was put on the chop block. King Eerolden gave the order for the execution to proceed. Prince Aaric screamed as the guillotine blade came down cutting off his wife’s head.

That night Prince Aaric buried his wife in the field of
Lilies next to the old oak tree where they had made love. He remained there all night grieving for her.

The next morning he went back to the palace to seek out his father. Prince Aaric was not in a good mood. He
was angry inside and he hurt, from the lost of his wife. He finally found his father and was going to have his say. “I hope your happy father, because you killed three people yesterday. My wife, our unborn
child, and myself.” said Prince Aaric trying to control his rage that he felt. “From this day on I am no longer your son and denounce the family name and title.” Aaric said and walked away. One of the counselmen came
up to the king and spoke. “He looks rather upset, doesn’t he.”

King Eeolden chuckled then said. “He will get over it, after all, the law is the law.” King Eerolden then had an idea. “Place my son in charge of the prison camp, immediately!” he ordered, and it was done. The king figured that after his son was introduce to a hostile environment, his son then
would come crawling back to him and beg to have his birthright restored to honor.

When I took my basic 32 woodland firefighting class in May 2002, the instructors had several case studies about firefighters that were “burned over” and what they and others did wrong. Storm King Mountain, 30 Mile, etc.. Some of the effects of being burned are quite horrific, particularly if it doesn’t kill you instantly, as it does in a fast-moving hot fire. I don’t think people understand the danger when they decide to not evacuate when a fire is coming. February’s pictures of the molten metal that had run like water from parked cars from the Diego fires should have made an impression on people that you don’t mess with wildfires.

Just think of all that Cartel marijuana that is going up in flames!

Speaking of which, we had the most expensive drug bust to date in Jackson County in SW Oregon. 204,000 marijuana plants! Worth roughly a billion dollars. 30 people working it were caught.

They didn’t say which Mexican drug cartel was running it, but I’d bet they are not happy.

Got a lot of traffic in this area. When Canada legalized it, rather than growing it themselves, they import most of it from Mexico. Highway 97, about a mile from my door, is the main conduit for Vancouver B.C. and some of the other western provinces. Several times a month, one of them will go through with expired tags, a stolen car, flagrantly run a light or drive 40 miles over the limit and get caught. It’s funny, actually- one would think with a cargo of several hundred pounds of cannabis, one would want to maintain a low profile.

  37. Saskfan

    Saskfan said, 2 months ago

The Canadian government hire a company to grow marijuana for medical use. They insisted that it had to be grown hydroponically, at the bottom of a mine shaft on northen Manitoba. People who obtained the product for medical use said it had very little of the active ingredients to help them, and was useless for its intended purpose. The company shut down their operation and went out of business this year. It’s been less than 5 years since they started. And most of their once-only customers immediately went back to growing it themselves.

They didn’t legalize the sale, purchase, or possession of marijuana, by the way, Nabuquduriuzhur; only the medical use of the stuff. Ithink the users are allowed one ounce or something silly, and only with a doctor’s prescription.

If it’s a van, SUV or other hatchback/station wagon/panel truck type vehicle, they may be stoned without realising it - i recall an article some years ago suggesting that large bales of the stuff outgas enough resin that, in an enclosed space, you can actually get a low-level buzz from it enough to impair reactions or judgement.

(There had been a number of otherwise-unexplainable crashes of small planes running the stuff in at the time.)

The fact that cannabis can seriously degrade judgment, reaction time or perception of time or speed/distances to an extent that would likely iclude unconsciousness if alcohol induced without impairing the physical abailty to oerate a vehicle is one of the things that can actually make driving stoned more dangerous than driving drunk.

Hold it against your left hip with your left hand, with the end sticking forward.

Now reach your right hand over and grasp the end.

That makes sense, Fairportfan. If nothing else, it makes it easy for the police to know what they are carrying when they approach the vehicle. Whew. That stuff is noxious.

I don’t know the national stats, but because medical marijuana is so common in Oregon for recreational use, the most common cause of reckless driving (speeds of 130mph+ on I-5 are not uncommon) is marijuana use.

Speaking of impairment: when taking chemistry, when working with methanol, they always require you to use a fume hood to avoid breathing the vapors and to use gloves. You can absorb it through lung tissue and skin. Prior to the current ethanol push, the fuel that was pushed was methanol and given how many people had fuel leaks then, I wondered how many drunks or suddenly blind drivers we were going to see, just from fuel system leaks or from working the pumps all day in those states with full service.
